I was born and raised in the Chicago area. Chicago does have a magnificent night skyline view. Buckingham Fountain lit up at night, the Ferris Wheel, world's largest, at Navy Pier, and the lights of those spectacular skyscrapers are sights to be seen. I've seen it from Lake Michigan and from the drive downtown.
I was fortunate enough to live in New York for a few years. During that time I was able to view the Manhattan Skyline, with the WTC and after. I viewed it from the Staten Island Ferry, which goes right past Lady Liberty. I viewed if from the Brooklyn Bridge. I viewed it from the Empire State Building. The view instilled a peace in me that I cannot describe. It was kind of llke seeing a double rainbow.
While the death of the WTC diminished the view somewhat, I think Manhattan still has the most romantic view of any city.
What about you? What is your favorite skyline view in the U.S.A.?

San Francisco has the best skyline. we have our bay, with the orange bridge glowing in the sunset. You don't get that glimmer. off that water, with that light, and the backdrop of the Transamerica building anywhere else. San Fran is my favorite!

Chicago and New York are both very nice, and so is Boston. Depending on the time of year, they have different kinds of beauty, though they're all better seen from inside than out in the winter.

Another beautiful skyline is in Providence, RI. I knew I was forgetting one.

I absolutely agree with you! Chicago's skyline is the most spectacularly beautiful one in the Midwest! New York has it for the East, Dallas for the Southwest and Seattle for the Northwest! :)
My Life Plan, has me moving back to Chicago, and it's the last US city that I plan to live in, before moving to Canada and then retiring to the Southern Hemisphere ( Vanuatu or Fiji) and living happily ever after! :)

I was in Vegas. There are a lot of lights, too many flashing ones for my taste.
Chicago and New York have calm, serene lights and skylines that are near water. There is just something special in seeing the reflection of the lights off the water. It's like that double rainbow I was referring to in my original discussion. It's magical!
