Children today are more intelligent

When I was 6 years old, I don’t even know how to speak English, let alone know how to read. At 7 years old, I just started to learn how to write and read. I did not know much then. But children today are far more advance and seems to be a lot more curious than we were during our time. They seem to grasp concepts very easily and employ reasoning and deduction even at very early age. I am amazed at my 2-year old and 5-year old daughter’s capabilities. Though my 2-year old daughter can’t perfectly pronounce some of the words yet, but she can understand 3 languages already, Cebuano, Tagalog & English and her vocabulary is quite extensive already. She can reason and can impose her will and what she wants. Just now, I was talking to my cousin over the phone and she also wanted to talk to whoever I was talking to. I didn’t mind her so she decided to go upstairs where there is another phone in my mother’s room. She went there and answered the phone and made a nuisance of herself over the phone. She is fully capable also of eating just by her self and can get her own water whenever she feels thirsty. My 5-year also can read, write, do math, can take a bath & dress herself, pick-ups up after herself, and knows how to computer already. She keeps on asking me that she has to practice typing using MS Word so that she can type as fast as me using all her fingers. She is also very good in negotiating in order to get what she wants. They say that children are more intelligent today because of the milk that they take which are fortified with brain boosting elements such as DHA & ARA. Are you’re children too like that?

Both my children are incredibly bright and are at the top of their classes. I don't think it has anything much to do with dha or ara - more it is to do with the fact that parents and carers spend more time with children and are more away of educational toys!

Better parenting and care are factors too. But generally, children are just much better these days even those whose parents are not that good in seeing to their children. I for are is very busy and sometimes I am not even around to help my child with her school work or homework or help her review for her exams. I still believe that milk is a factor too but nothing beats good genes for the select few children. Thanks for responding!

How did you arrive at such conclusion? What particular aspects have you find that are far better for children today than yesterday? Thanks for responding!

I believe we are equally intelligent regardless of what year we were born. Children these days have a different environment than what we had. They have access to educational stuff like computers and internet which we didn't/might not have. Another reason is that we are just improving the way we were raised. Your children may have learned math and language skills earlier than you did because you as a parent taught them early. I know my parents were not capable of doing that but I am now and so I can teach my kids educational skills before they even get to school.

You could be right. My parents didn't teach me when I was my daughters age while I already started teaching my children at 1 year old. I also have lots of educational materials while I didn't have them as I grew up.

Your children sound pretty similar to mine. My 2 year old has great understanding of language and does mispronounce a bit but is speaking a lot. She chats on the phone and does pretend writing. Can feed herself and undress and helps me with the housework. My 5 year old is reading confidently, loves maths, can chat to my friends on the ocmputer. However I know that milk isn't the reason for this as they don't drink it. I was pretty much the same as them at their age too. I think it is because my parents encouraged me and worked hard with me like I do with my children and it sounds like you do the same with yours. I'm certain that it is your hard work and dedication to your children that is making them so advanced.

Thanks very much my friend for acknowledging the efforts I put up with my children and for thinking that I am a good parent to them. Such compliment means so much coming from a parent like you. Gob bless you and your family!
