Burial or Cremation?

If people believe in the litany said at a funeral ashes to ashes, dust to dust, then why do so many still insist on burial, as would be a lot better to cremate. i know a lot of peeps still need a visible sign of the ones that are gone as in gravestones, but the way a lot of councils are digging up old graves to relocate the skeletons to claim back the land, means that old bodies stacked on top of each others new graves.
