How involved should celebrities get

A lot of actors and music celebrities use their fame to influence their fans into supporting causes that they believe in. Most notably are U2 lead singer Bono, Eddie Vetter from Pearl Jam and actor Ed Begley Jr. I have nothing against these people, but after awhile they start to only be known for what the are supporting and not their first profession. Like Ed Begley Jr is Mr. Enviroment to me, but I can't remember any movie or show right of hand that he has been in. Do you think that some famous celebrities push their causes to much and become annoying? At what limit do you think that they should stop advertising for their causes? Let me know what you think and what celebrity really gets to you when the tout for their cause.

I would rather they be actively involved than just be a face for the charity. Take Larry Wilcox (formerly of CHIPS) for example. He is supposed to be some kind of spokesperson for Fibromyalgia. I haven't seen a darn thing that he has done. I would also like to see these celebrities put their money where their mouth is. They have millions of dollars. I could use a few of their dollars. That is not a joke. I am suffering with fibromyalgia for 11 years now. I cannot work. We are struggling financially. I don't want to just see money going to research. I want to see charitable money going to help the people with the illness. They do with other illnesses, but not fibromyalgia. As you pointed out, some of these celebrities we haven't seen "do their thing" in awhile. Are they just touting a charity to get their face back in the spotlight and perhaps have some producer say, "Oh yeah, I remember him/her. Why don't we get him/her to play the role of...." There are more than two sides to this coin I'm afraid.

I believe that being a celebrity is a calling to do better things. Being a celebrity is power and when one is in power, one can do extraordinary things and influence a lot of people. I laud those celebrities who use their status to make this world better and work for causes.
