Increasing blog traffic. How far will you go?

Or more accurately, how low will you be willing to stoop to increase your blog traffic count and google page rank? I joined blogexplosion.com a couple of months ago. For those who don't understand how this site works, you have to visit other members' blog for 20seconds to earn credit. Then you can use this credits to purchase traffic to your blog. What does purchasing credits means? Simply, other members of that site, visiting my blog for 20 seconds to earn credit which they in turn will use to purchase traffic to their blog. What happens in reality is, you open a browser and let the blog load, wait 20seconds, click next for another blog to load. You hardly read the content of the blog you are visiting. What's the point? But I still do it because I want to see 3 or 4 digit numbers in my hit counter. I waste one to two hours everyday, clicking next button, giving false hit count to strangers so they in turn will do the same to me. Lame. I know. I blog so that people read my post. So from now on, no more blogexplosion. What do you do to increse your blog's pageviews?

Yes I think you hit it on the head tommy408. Traffic exchanges like Blogexplosion do help you get the word out but over time you might feel less and less enthusiastic about them. I just posted a long reply to someone elses question about traffic and I'm not going to repeat it here because I'm not allowed to cut and paste and it is jus ttoo long to repeat (see if you can find it) but let me say that using traffic exchanegs to get lots of traffic to your site is one thing but what we all need to aim to get is "quality" traffic and really visitors for 30 seconds just to rack up your visitor counter is well, next to useless. You'll get "quality traffic" by having "quality content". Remember that on the Internet content is king but quality content is much, much better :)

Here's the link to my comment on that other thread that I mentioned that might be relevant to tommy408's thread. Look at comment number 25 at http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/915800.aspx?p=3 I'm sure that there's a better way to refer to other comments/messages but as I've only been a member here for about an hour I haven't quite worked that out yet :)

You are right about quality visitors. I would want my visitor to atleast read my posts on the first page and check out my sidebars. Otherwise, like you said. Useless. After maintaining the blog for a while now, my perception and target has somewhat changed. Before, all i wanted is about 1000 hits per day. Now I would prefer visitors who come again and again rather than a 30 second glance from 100s of strangers collecting credits

As others have already said, sites like blogexplosion will just increase your hit counter and not get you much in the way of returning visitors or regular readers. Much better to spend your time getting backlinks and promoting your blog on other websites. Submit a review of your blog at www.ratemyblog.co.uk its a free site and can help you get some extra traffic. If you write good reviews you might get a mention on the homepage. Take a few minutes to read "promote your blog for free in 7 easy steps" at http://www.ratemyblog.co.uk/content/view/34/72/
