I usually either, read the book then watch the movie, or I'll watch the movie and not read the book. I think the only movie I ever watched that made me want to read the book too, was Tuck Everlasting. The book was okay, but the movie was better.
I'm not a good reader, so I don't read a lot of books for fun. I only finally started reading for fun because now I read audiobooks. So with movies like Memoirs of a Geisha, I read the audiobook first. Bridge to Terabithia, I read the actual book first only because it was required reading back in middle school.

I think its best to watch the movie. The book is best to read BEFORE seeing the film because it would tickle your imagination. Otherwise, it will lose the excitement. But there are those who do both. No matter which comes first, they get hooked.
Also, watching the movie first may help you understand the book better when you're already in the middle.

I only watch the movies and do not read the books. I am not a big book reader fan and enjoy watching the action or plot acted out on the big screen. I prefer seeing it up close and personal than reading a book It gives me a better understanding of the story that way plus I know that I will watch the movie the whole way through. If i read a book, I will start it and stop and probably not get back to it til much later.

It really all depends. If I've read the book and a movie come out then yeah I'll usually watch the movie too. If I've watched the movie and it's in a series and suppose to be very good then I'll usually read the book too. Why? I guess to see the differences between the two. Plus if I really like the book or movie then it just adds to the entertainment value.

The book is always better then the movie. If I am going to see a movie, I make sure if I read the book, that there is at least a one year lapse between the reading and the viewing, if not, the book is too fresh in my mind and I end up disappointed in the movie.
That is why I am in such a quandry over the upcoming Harry Potter releases. I had planned on reading the first 6 books before the last one came out, but the 5th movie comes out just before the book, which means I can only re-read the first 4 books...leaving only 10 days to reread 5 & 6. It is killing me.

It is not like I am a reader, but I would prefer to read the book before watching the movie.
By reading first, I get to find out about the story by using my imagination, and that is how I would like to compare as I watch the movie after.
If I get to watch the movie first, the probability of even reading the book will be very slim, for I already know the story, I already know what to expect, my imagination will be constrained by the idea or the cinematography of what I have watched, therefore, I would want to start from scratch and start from a blank page rather than just tracing my way through or kinda like proofreading if the story was indeed like that as it was in the movie.

I prefer watching the movie over reading the book if I were to do only one, often for me that is the case. If I both watch the movie and read the book, I generally read the book first. Reading the book might likely make me want to watch the movie.
Once I've watched the movie though, I usually (though not always) find the book dull in comparison. This isn't true for all books though. For instance, I enjoy Stephen King novels, and the movies based on these novels will never stack up to the books. For these I quite often watch the movie first, but you can be sure that I will still want to read the book afterwards.
Either way, if I both watch the movie and read the book I always have to make comparisons in my head. It does get a bit distracting at times. Still I enjoy both reading and watching the movies, so I guess I will probably continue with at least a little of both.

Definately read the book. Then MAYBE see the movie. Movies can be such a disappointment. The books always are better than a movie could ever be. Sometimes I'll watch a movie and then decide to read the book because I know the book will be so much better than the movie.

Even though I rarely watch TV or movies. If I was put in this situation, I would read the book first and then see the movie. I cannot read a book if I already know the ending. I lose patience. However, to read the book and know how it ends and then see the film, it is different for me. The movie just makes the book come alive.

it depends on what movie/book we are talking about. I havent read any lord of the rings books, but I love the movies. I read all the Harry Potter books and seen the movies.
Usually when I read a book (a good one) I wonder if there is a movie and I like to watch it to compare. For example, The Outsiders. I really enjoyed the movie but the book was just okay for me. But then sometimes there are books that just dominate the movie! lol. Which happens a lot in the case of Stephen King.

Read the book first and then watch the movie.....so you will know what is going going to happen!!...but nothing can beat reading a book b'cos when u r reading a book you have the freedom to 'makeup' your own scenes watching a movie is someone elses interpration of the book. but once you read the book and love the characters it fun watching the movie b'cos then you can compare it with your imagination and see if it matches also check out if the actors playing a role are the ones you would have chosen if given a chance

I would probably go with reading the book first then watch the movie later. But I don't usually do that. Sometimes, when I want to see what the outcome of the movie is based on the book, I would watch the movie after reading the book. But if I watch the movie first, I usually would just ignore reading the book. It's just frustrating sometimes when the outcome of the movie isn't what you expected from what you read in the book.
