Favourite novel: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I;ve read it about twenty or thirty times and I definitely recommend it to people. Whatever you do, don't watch the movie! It's not half as good. The only good adaptation I;ve seen is the 6-hour BBC series done in the 1990's - and even there they softened the book somewhat. Most people think of Pride and Prejudice as a romantic novel (and it is), but it's also an exercise in wit from one of the lightest, wittiest novelists ever.

I have heard Pride and Prejudice way back in the 80s. Was that the same as the one you are saying? I forgot who the author was. Now, you get me excited to read it and now I want to read it. Thanks, snowflake5.

Favorite novels: The Scarlet Letter-Very important novel on the human psyche, female gender roles (Hester Prynne, the main character is marked with a letter "A" as in adulterer for a relationship with a man named Chillingworth, even though she is with a Dimmmesdale.) Beloved-Established Toni Morrison as NOT just a literary writer, but popular one as well. Story about a woman named Sethe who kills her baby, Beloved, so that her baby would avoid slavery. Beloved reincarnates as a ghost. Interesting and odd narrative.

It sure looks interesting. I hope the next things suggested here would cost a dollar only so I would be able to buy them all. Would it still be called "novel"? Lol! Thank you for sharing. I'll look for it.

My favorite books include some of the masterpieces from the old sci-fi maestro Isaac Asimov. Let's start with the Foundation series, which tracks the development of mankind into new frontiers where in the universe as we know consists of millions of planets, but the growing population is leading to anarchy and one mathematician thinks he has a solution to the problem. Then, next up, there are the Robot series where in three laws of Robotics namely 1) A robot cannot injure a human by action or inaction. 2) A robot must obey the orders of a human provided law 1 is not violated. 3) A robot must protect itself provided the laws 1 and 2 are not violated. So based on this there is a whole series of stories which are simply masterpieces. Hope you enjoy these. Cheers! Ram
