According to the family story, I never called my mother mommy. Even when I was avery small child, I always called her 'mom'. I assume this is because that is what I heard the other older children calling her, and I picked it up from them.

We call her "mom." Unless I just can't get her attention, then I will call her by her first name - but that is probably countable on 1 hand. I do remember the first time I ever did it. I was at a grocery store with my baby sister, I might've been 6 or 7 & I realized that probably every lady there was someone's mom so I called my mom by her first name.

I would have called her mom. My sister, for some strange reason calls her Gerty though, and my brother calls her 'Ma', like to rhyme with Hee Haw. I don't know how we all ended up calling her something different.

Since I was a kid, I call my mother 'mommy' and also my mother in law, I call 'mommy'. My kids also call my mother and mother inlaw as 'mommy', so, to distinguish me from my mothers, I let my kids to call me 'mama' sometimes they call me 'ma'...and their father they call 'papa' or 'pa'.
