Does your dog carry his food to another spot in the room, and then eat it?

Everyone's favorite dog - This is snoopy - I saw him at an event for an amusement park back when I used to live in California - Do you think he eats his kibble in another room?

My dog always goes to his food bowl, fills his cheeks like a chipmunk, and them proceeds to another part of the room where he ultimately spits it out on the floor. Then he will eat the kibble one by one. I always wondered why he did this. I do have another dog in the house, so maybe he is worried about the other dog hogging all of his food. At the end of it all though, the other dog comes over and ends up eating his food anyway. Does your dog do this? Why do you think?

I have had dogs that would drag their bowls into another room, eat a little, then peek in the door to see what I was doing. I figured they were paranoid.

This seems to be the most logical explanation for your dog's behavior. Anyway, I believe that you find this habit as quite cute.

I dont know but one of my 3 cats does that too. But then I noticed after she left one of the other cats came over and finished it.LOL So I guess they think no one is going to get it. I dont know but its kinda funny.

Yes, my dog does this too, but one piece at a time. She puts it in her mouth, walks about 5 feet then eats it. She then goes back for another. I have yet to figure out why she does this, and it is only with her dry food. She used to stand at her bowl to eat her wet food, which I don't give her anymore. She has been on dry food for about a month now, so she should be used to it already. She was a rescued dog, so the only thing I can think of is that she had to fight to get some food at one time in her life.

My dog does the exact same thing and I have had her since she was 6 weeks old and we have never had another dog or cat with her. I think it is just a habit with dogs for some reason. She makes me very annoyed some time as she will do it piece by piece and I am like just eat it already. She usually doesn't make a mess with it,but still.

Sometimes my dog does this and eats in on the carpet I have no idea why. She will also hide bits of food other places in the house!

I don't kow why they do that. I have a small dog and I noticed when I buy her certain treats, she would take them to another room and hide them.

My dog used to do this a lot more when he was younger. He still does it now from time to time. He doesn't go as far away from the bowl as he used to though. Now he just gets a mouthful and backs up a step or two from the food dish. I think he does this to give himself time to chew what he's got in his mouth.

My dog does it too, no matter what kind of food he is eating, canned or dry, when he eats dry food he gets two or three pieces and runs off to eat them. if it is canned he grabs a mouthful and walks away to chew it up and swallow it. I think he burns more energy eating than he gets from the food, but it must be doing some good, he bounces all over the place for hours on end.

My lab/pit mix does this not only with his food but treats as well. I've never been able to figure out why he does it other than he doesn't want anyone watching him eat or taking it away from him. He will even go into the bathroom to eat his food/treats so as to be alone. Odd behavior that I think is cute/funny.

my dog does this too!! well, kind of... he will fill his mouth with food and then walk through the doorway into the hallway and chew and swallow and then goes back to his bowl and takes another bite and walks into the hallway and cehw and swallows. i don't get it. the only thing i can think of, is that his bowl is near the closet where we keep the trash can, so sometimes he needs to move his butt the other direction so we can get to the trashcan....maybe we disrupt his eating too much and therefore he just does this so he's not "in the way". aww, poor puppy. now, i feel bad. that's the only reason i can think of for him to do this, but, come to think of it, if i give him a biscuit (in the kitchen) he takes it into the dining room and eats it in there. maybe he's a shy eater!!!???!! dogs are so funny, aren't they??

That is really cute! My dog brings her food bowl with her to follow me. I keep her bowl in the kitchen but she follows me to the kitchen or computer room with her bowl in her mouth. She also hides her treats in the couch and chair and takes a fit if the cat goes to those spots.

Blue Laying Down - This is my blind baby, Blue, just laying down and relaxing.
My cute little Australian Cattle Dog - Dingo mix is one of the daintiest dogs you'll ever meet. She takes her food, one piece at a time, and brings it in the other room, then goes back to grab another one. She even burps politely. It's kinda cute. The only thing she does that is really dog like is her gas. She can be one smelly girl at times! LOL.

my girlfriends dog always takes his food to another part of the house. My girlfriends dog was unwanted and my girlfriends parents took him in, he was beaten by his previous owner and his previous owner would give him food and then take it away from him to be nasty. My girlfriend now thinks he takes the room to another part of the house as hes scared that it will be taken from him.

Kai tends to throw his food up into the air. He will do that 4 or 5 times. He will leave it where it lands. That way if Tara is near she will get the thrown food and leave his bowl alone. Smart kid.

I have never had any dog with this kind of habit ever. All of the dogs I've had ate from the food bowl and, that includes the one we now have. Our cat does the same. In fact, there is this funny thing about our cat. He goes to the dog's food bowl although the dog is still eating, and they eat together. Obviously the dog tolerates it because, he gives room for the cat.

My dog does not but my aunt's dog does. I am not really sure why he does but my aunt hates it because he usually doesn't clean up all the bits so there are dog food crumbs all over the house.

Both of my dogs do that too. Their food bowl is on tile and they carry a mouth full over and spit it out on the carpet then eat it one kibble at a time. When my son was about 18 months old he used to put pieces of his food on the floor and bend down to pick it up with his mouth just like the dogs. .......not relevent to the question, but it was very cute.
