New York City Trip

I want to go to New York City this summer. I have researched a few things I want to see, but have no clue where to stay. Does anyone that lives there or who has traveled to NYC have any suggestions?

I really liked the Algonquin Hotel when I stayed there several years ago. It is quaint with a nice lobby area, restaurant, bar with entertainment scheduled regularly. I also liked very much that it was in close proximity to Times Square and subways. Doormen where very nice and helpful. Enjoy your stay. It is the greatest city in the world.

Thanks for your response. Are you going to the state of Washington or to Washington D.C.? I've been to D.C. once. I was on a week vacation to Gettysburg and decided to take one day and drive down. It was right after 911 so I didn't get to go into the White House. Still it was neat just being there.
