When I start a disscussion, and people responds to it, do I HAVE to rate them? How log should I wait until I pick the best response? Lets say if I choose a best response, then some othe member cam and post a response which I think is better than the best response, is there anyway to change my choice? Does rating effects payment rate? If I find any disscussion that is not worth a penny, and I give negative rating, will it cause big impact on his payment rate? I am a newbie, so please bear my ignorance. Thank You

Well rating is the + - ! symbols you see at the right side of the page in box. These are provide to reward the good responses and punish the bad responses and one must rate the responses though it is not compulsory, but a good way to reward the people who really think in giving responses. I think these ratings might effect the payment system and the Star nos one has. As far as selecting a best response is concerned you should wait for a day or when you feel the response is worth to be selected as the best response.

However, how often are the negative and positive rating given by members here purely based on emotional prejudices. Say if a person post a resourceful and well thought response but his ideas and opinions are against yours. Would you give negative rating for him? Or say your friend in MyLot who alsways dutifully response positively to all your post, and he started a lame discussion not worth the bandwith, would you still give positive ratings? That being said, I like this rating feature of MyLOt. In a macro level it probably does weed out the useless posts and discussion. I just hope that there is external yard stick that the MyLot admins used to evaluate posts other than the user ratings. Sort of check and balance

Yes you are right about emotions, though I have not faced a situation where someone has responded totally against my opinion, but I always try to be rational and not driven by emotions.I try to give a + rating where I think the responder has realy given a thought for the response.

Thanks Tommy for chosing my response as the best response. Its is my first best response after about more then 165 responses. I have read some of your responses recently( on agloco, etc.) and found that you really give a thought and analyse the discussions and response. Good work ! Atleast there are some members who are genuinely interested in discussions.

When you respond to discussions, you don't have to rate other members. It will not help you to increase your earnings. The only thing that the rating are helping is to show other members what other people think about him. I rate the poster of every discussion that I enter.

Now, that is quite a task. I have rated few topics and few response thus far, but I still pick and choose. I don't rate every discussion I enter

Hello tommy408..... Once a best response is chosen it cannot be changed. The rating and reporting options are provided by mylot because they need and request our help locating the crap that needs to be removed. No one can see who rates or reports a discussion. If a discussion is not worth anything why should they receive anything for it ? Not rating negatively and reporting the things that should be is not following mylots policies. Read the do's and don'ts list to see for yourself. Do your part to improve the quality of mylot and the time we spend here. Tom

I agree, I'm new and also confused with the rating system in general! I saw that the ratings people have are out of 100. Does everyone start at 100 (and their rating goes down with negative ratings), or does everyone start at 0? Also, are the ratings an instant thing or updated once a day like the earnings?
