Who falls asleep first, you or your partner?

It is almost midnight and I was just finishing work in preparation for tomorrow, Monday. I was telling my husband that we will be going to bed soon and just give me 30 minutes to upload stuff. He told me he will just lay down on the couch, watch a movie while waiting for me. So I said, ok. I was silent for 10 minutes and the movie was just starting. When I turned my head, my husband is sound asleep. I am the type who can't go to sleep that quick but my husband is. I wonder if men sleep quickly that women or vice-versa. So what about in your house...who goes to zzzzzzz land first...you or your partner or your zzzzz's are synchorinized?

You are right on that...am very jealous of our couch. I think my husband prefers it rather than our bed...lol. But usually he wants to wait for me to go to bed but I do my work at night after putting the baby to sleep...so he usually falls asleep on the couch, then if am done with work, i wake him up and he half-awake goes to bed. Sometimes, he even thinks he spent the whole night in the couch! lol. Thanks for the comment.

My husband sleep first and faster than me. I think everywhere woman can go to sleep later than their hubby because wife has some domestic work before bed, some thought for tomorrow's family work, schooling to child etc. which generaly man do not need to think therefore woman cannot go to bed or cannot sleep first than man except some exception.

You are right on this. I guess us women still goes around the house, making sure everything is ready for the following day, checking babies and make sure every window and door is locked. I do these. I even make sure my husband has all his things ready for work. Thanks for the comment.

My wife is a workaholic working 6 days and 12 hours a day. I am a night owl and have been for 40+ years. I only need 3 hours of sleep and that's all I usually get as it is. I take care of my elderly father which takes a lot of time being with him. I then sit online a lot during the day also randomly going to check on dad. I get to sleep usually about 3 or 4 in the morning then up before 9. Some days I may sleep 12 or more hours. But my wife is always asleep first. Thanks for this discussion. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!

Thanks Grandpa Bob for the comment. I guess each of us has different sleeping schedule. If I see to it that my husband is fast asleep, I usually go to bed around 2 am and then early in the morning, my daughter will wake me up. So I get the most 5 to 6 hours of sleep each day. That is why during weekends, when my husband is not working, I would stay in bed late.

When my husband is home he's almost always the first to fall asleep. But, thats only because he's the first in bed. I'm a night owl, but when he gets here he's usually been up a while already, so especially the first night back he's usually ready for bed sooner than I am. If we go to bed together, I'm usually the first asleep. I have no trouble laying down and being asleep 3 minutes later. He teases me that I could go to sleep anywhere.

Even if we go to bed together and we will having a conversation and all of a sudden, my husband is not saying anything. So when I peered down at him, he would be sleeping. Just to tease him, I would nudge him and asked innocently for a reply. It is so funny when he say something else and I tell him he is not listening to me. He said he was just resting his eyes...and if I won't budge, he sheepishly admits that he dozed of..=) Thanks for the comment.

My partner is out before I am. I can lay down with her and be extremely tired and then end up staying awake an hour or two (sometimes more) because I can't sleep while she's in dream land. She'll wake up maybe once or twice and I'll just look at her and she's back out. It's sort of annoying.

My husband has to go to sleep first. I don't want to bother him, when I get into bed, so I wait until he is deep asleep.

My husband does too. Probably he just get tired of waiting for me to settle down coz i had to do my evening rituals of cleaning my face, etc. Then if am in bed, had to do my prayers, etc. Then make sure all the pillows are in the right place...and especially now that I am expecting, I have to find a very comfortable position to sleep. If not, I will be tossing and turning around..lol. Thanks for the comment....

My wife always asking me to sleep at the same time. And when she wants to sleep first she asked me to sleep although I don't feel sleepy. Well I guess I have no choice but to sleep at the same time with her, because she don't like to sleep alone in the dark. When she was alone she was always using small dim light but when she sleeps with me, I can't sleep with the lights on...so she have to agree with me and she asked me to sleep with her anytime she wants to sleep.

My husband always goes to bed first then couple of hiurs I go to bed. I watch tv in our room and he sleeps so when the show is over he is still sleeping. I honestly don't know how he goes to sleep so fast it's like when he hits the pillows and off to sleep it takes me hours to get some sleep. I asked him several times how does he do that he reply I don't know just close your eyes .

My partner goes to bed long before I do lol. He's up for work early and so he likes to make sure he gets a good nights sleep first. He usually goes to bed around 11pm, some nights it's a little later, but 11pm is the norm. He gets up at 6am and checks his email accounts and stuff, then at 7am he gets the kids up to get them ready for school. I don't go to bed till 3 - 4am because I'm an insomniac, but he wakes me at 8.30am every day (unless I'm ill) with a cup of tea, and gives me a huge and kiss, and tells me he loves me. I try my best to be quiet when I go to bed, but our door makes a noise as it's turned on it's hinges - not a loud one but it usually wakes him nonetheless. However, he's one of those lucky ones who can turn over and go straight back to sleep. I on the other hand, am usually sat up reading whilst waiting for sleep to overcome me.

I don't need as much sleep as my husband does. He goes to sleep around 9-10pm and I don't go to sleep until the wee hours of the morning. Sometimes he will get up a little before me but usually we get up at the same time. He needs alot of sleep I guess.

I am an insomniac so I don't sleep much at all. However when I do get to stay at my boyfriends or vice versa I always fall asleep way before him and sleep like a log! I think it's because with him I feel secure and comfortable and safe. It also helps that he will massage and rub my back and hold me.... God he's perfect.

Every time I go to sleep with my partner he passes out within 2 minutes and I am tossing and turning for at least a half an hour before anything happens! I think its possible that women take longer. I know I do. I think its because I cannot clear my mind of chatter. I am always making lists of things to do the following day or week or month or year. I try to remind myself of tasks I need to accomplish. I just cant turn my mind off at night. usually I leave my tv on or something to try and distract myself to fall asleep better. If anyone has any other suggestions I would like to know.

Our zzzzz's are definitely NOT synchronized. Hubby goes to bed about 10 pm and is asleep shortly after his head hits the pillow. I usually get to bed around 11 pm. Then I lay there for hours trying to get to sleep. Every now and then I will take 2 Advil PM tablets so that I can get some sleep and feel refreshed for work the next day. Luckily, I only have to work a few days a week. He still works 5 days a week until he retires later this year. After almost 29 years of marriage, I've figured out that he unwinds before he gets in bed, and I unwind after I lay down. That's all I've been able to figure out as to why it takes me longer to fall asleep, no matter how tired I am.

My husband always falls asleep first. He hits the pillow and that is the end of it. Plus, he gets up at 4:30 so that could be why. By 8:30-9:00 he is beat and he may have already fallen asleep in his recliner..lol

My husband always falls asleep before I do. He goes to sleep around 9pm and go to sleep around midnight. I'm just no tired at 9pm, so I do other things...watch TV, go online, or just cuddle with my kids if they happen to be awake. I'd vacuum or do the dishes then, but I don't know how to clean house quietly lol, especially with a noisy vacuum! LOL

I am just like you, takes some real time to hit true deep satisfying recuperative sleep, and if your guy falls asleep before you, then I geuss my guy is not so bad cause he is out easily too. A few minutes in his comfy chair and even if his intention is to rise and share bedtime with me, nope he falls asleep and you cover them, kiss them on the forehead and leave them there, right ?

I really dont know if this is true to all. But my father sleeps so fast. While the whole family goes out to go to the movie house he sleeps just before the middle of the movie. Its true also when he watches the television set. He always ends up sleeping in the couch. I guess this is because they do work that needs their physical stregth most of the times.
