Who to make your postings appear on home page???

I have tried diffrent ways but my posting never appears on homepage. Someone told me to start discussions from my intrest and it will appear on home page. But i tried that also, if anyone knows any other way do let me know. As this is one of the very important aspect to get more an more responses to yr discussions. Or does it depends upon rating?? Please comment.
