Wow..... A man who took a woman hostage in the Cairns office of a Queensland Labor MP has been arrested after a tense siege this afternoon. Police said the man barricaded himself inside the Grafton Street office of Cook MP Jason O'Brien just after noon. A shot was reportedly fired inside. Mr O'Brien was not in the office, but a female employee was kept hostage inside. Police evacuated the area and a cordon was established. Police negotiators arrived and began talking with the man. Cairns city centre was shut down as officers, police negotiators and ambulances attended the scene. The armed man later released the female employee before surrendering without incident at about 3pm and being taken into custody.
