I rescued a boxer 4 weeks ago the owner said she was 6 but we think shes more 4 years old, she has no teeth only two canines at the front and couple short stubby teeth st the back, any ideas on food so i can help her gain some weight as she was not fed properly :( she also has a very cracked looking nose quite dry looking.IS THAT NORMAL?

Hi uriegas60 here, I have two boxers and I have given them bananas they seem to enjoy them also can food is soft enough but a warning about soft food they also do soft do-do, I give my dogs dry food so they won't pu-pu soft for the lack of a better word .If the nose is dry their is something wrong the nose should be moist. Take her to a vet have her checked out. I hope this helped?

if her nose is very dry then she needs more fuilds in her. and as for the food it would be best to feed her soft food or can dog food but dont just buy the cheap stuff it is not very good for some dogs. but in the meantime you can put some lotion on it but then wipe it off so she dont get very much of it in her mouth. have fun with her they are cute dogs.I am I proud of you for rescueing her she will surely have a loving home.

hi ecarol178, i hope that your boxer is a lot better by now. You have posted this discussion two years ago. If your boxer does not has teeth it wise to provide him soft food or dry food with luke water so it would be easy to digest.

First and foremost, take that baby to the vet. Her nose is probably a result of poor diet and a lack of fluids. But since she was a rescue, it is importantto get her fully checked out instead of relying on the previous owner's word. Also, I stay away from canned food for my for my two boxers. I boil a chicken or chicken legs and things in a big pot of water with olive oil and fresh garlic. Take the chicken out and let it cool. While the meat is cooling, add rice and let it cook through. Carefully take all the meat off the bones and add it back to the pot. I scoop it out over kibble twice a day. But since your baby has no or few teeth, you might still put it over kibble, but let it sit and soak up the juice so it's nice and soft first. This ususally lasta about a week...depending on how much you make. Freeze anything past a week's worth so it won't go bad. Yeah, I know it's a lot of work, BUT I don't have to worry about the food being contaminated (I use organic kibble---Canadae) and their coats are super shiny!
