How much do you hate having to disrobe at the doctor's office?

Personally, I hate it, a lot! I know sometimes it needs to be done, and in order to be examined properly the patient might have to suffer some embarassment for their own good, but I really dread the whole ordeal and find it embarassing. Having given birth to two children I would have thought I'd be over this phobia, but I'm not. Am I the only one?

I work in health care and see people do this everyday. When it's somebody else doing it I don't even give it a second thought. When it's me on the other hand I get really self conscious. I don't know why, I should know better because like I said I see the same thing every day.

That's the thing. I think you have nailed it on the head. For the health care professional, they are trained to be discompassionate. For the patient, it can be unpleasant. It's not something we are used to doing every day. And for me, my Dr is my neighbour, so after the fact, there he is on the other side of the rose bush, per say.

Oh my, you are not the one, I think many many people hate undressing for the doctor...I hate it still, I was told once that when you have a baby you lose all dignity, because we all know how reveling having a child can be...doctors are so use to it, they see thousands of naked bodies and body parts every day, and I try to think about that when i gotta strip down for an exam or a test of some sort...but even after having children, and baring it all it still doesnt get any easier...

I'm glad to hear that. I just hate the whole process, and then the next time I have to go into the same doctor, of course my mind flashes back to the last embarassing visit and I just CRINGE.

I guess that is a good way to look at it. I try to remain as detached as possible, whether it is a blood draw, injection, or exam.

That's why doctors have to be as professional and possible and try not to betray any emotions. I agree it is embarrassing, disgusting and humiliating to disrobe at the doctor's office. So try to avoid the doctor unless absolutely necessary...
