i just happened to pass by one of our fellowmen here about our flag being the most unique in the world. then i thought about starting this thread. when i was still living in quezon city, i usually take the mrt when i travel. needless to say, i regularly pass by camp aguinaldo and camp crame. sometimes when i pass by, i can't help but notice some of the flags outside camp aguinaldo are either totally worn out or already torn. first time i saw them, i said maybe its just because of the typhoon. but what really annoyed me is that a couple of months later, those flags were still raised. some of the poles have already fallen. then i thought to myself, why the heck are these guys not paying attention to the highest symbol of our freedom? what makes it worse? camp aguinaldo is not the only establishment like that. i've been in some other government offices and saw the same. i also see some flags like its never had any washing since it was raised decades ago. after seeing all these, although not all the time, i realized that many filipinos really don't understand what the flag symbolizes. many don't understand that the flag is more than just a piece of cloth you hang, and wait for it to get torn apart. what really annoys me is the fact that i keep seeing these kind of sight either in government offices or military establishments. for cryin out loud! aren't they supposed to show some good examples of how to respect and take good care of the flag? sheezsh!.. how bout you guys? how do you feel when you see a deteriorating flag hanging on a pole?

That's very true. I'm very sad when I see these worn out flags flying our colors. We sing the National Anthem, they salute, and there's much money in the government being stolen by government officials. They could not allot some amount to change those worn out flags.

i have high respects for our national flag ever since i was a kid. respect for it was established in my life by my teachers back then. i just don't see it as a piece of cloth but as a symbol of our country. and so, i pay my highest respect for it. i am not basically from manila. but whenever i go there, i do pass by camp aguinaldo and some government offices there when i use the MRT. and yep. most of torn already and obviously should be replaced. and yet, it's still there. maybe it symbolizes the fact that even if we filipinos are old and seem to be torn by many struggles, we are still above it all, proud to be a filipino. i know it might not be right to say. i am just looking at the bright side of it. hehe. however, you do have a point. i hope they get to be replaced by new ones so as to show how we value our national flag.

well, if theres something else the flag is supposed to symbolize, it definitely should not be as negative as being torn apart. its just too annoying to see flags like that. in fact, its degrading for filipinos! your country and history symbolized by a worn and torn flag, thats not acceptable. sometimes i feel that officers in such establishments should be replaced! i even hope all of them are replaced since nobody even cares.

I agree with you completely. What a shame, what a pity. Our flag, our natinal symbol, the perfect memorandum of our freedom being so dreadfully attended to, infact its not being attended to at all. Politicians speak so much about it , but do they really respect. So many of our country men, brave soldiers just give away there lives for this flag and people who enjoy their lives in freedom forget the bloodshed and the enormous effort , hardship laid for it, that they do not even show respect to our national flag. Really awful!

its really sad to see those flags that way. i hope those responsible for taking care of the flags do their jobs. otherwise, replace those people! maybe hang them in place of the flags so they'd feel how saddening the state of those flags are.

does that also mean you have no concern for the well-being of our country? you only care for your family?
