Feelings on the acquisition of Todd Bertuzzi

Take a jump back, and replay the Bertuzzi/Moore incident. If you're a big Wings fan, you're used to finesse hockey. You're used to watching skill instead of watching goons. When you saw the Bertuzzi/Moore replay, you probably felt sick seeing it happen. I know I did. I couldn't even begin to say how much I was disappointed with the NHL's response to the incident. He should have been banned, kicked out of the sport for good. There's no place for what he did in the sport of hockey. So take a jump back to present time. The Wings are looking for a physical presence. They need someone to bring the grit back to the team. They need that one player who is bound to have the opposition hesitate to start a scrum, and sure to keep their heads up on the ice. So who can they sign to fit this role? It's old news, the Wings picked up Todd Bertuzzi. In one aspect, he's exactly what they needed. A strong, physical, aggressive presence on the ice. He's working out pretty well too. Notice that Holmstrom seems to be taking less abuse on the ice lately? On the other side, it seems very strange to see a man who is responsible for ending an opponents career with a cheap shot skating around on the ice with a red and white jersey. It's going to certainly take me time to get used to having him around. Even if he ends up being the perfect fit with the club, his reputation proceeds him, and is going to follow him for a long time to come.

I have been a Red Wings fan since 1997. I remember the teams that won all three cups. Yes we had finese players , but we also had some tough guys too. But we have never had a dirty player.A player that would pull a cheat shot. And you know why? He would have to answer to the boss, Scotty Bowman.I don't care if Bertuzzi helps these Red Wings win another cup,I will not consider Bertuzzi a true Red Wing. There are and were real, honest, and fair players that wear that red and white sweater.
