Should people be able to change their names when they reach 18?

Someone has started a discussion asking how parents came up with the names of their children.
Given what some of these people have named their children, do you think they should have the right to change their names, without it being a big deal. By just making a request?
I like my name and would not want to change it, but what about you.

I think people should be allowed to change their names. I wouldn't change my name. I don't think it's that bad.
Now I know some people that gave their children some not so good names. One of my friends made up her son's name, and it's always mispronounced and misspelled and everything else. I wouldn't blame him if he wanted to change it.
We gave my son a name that isn't that common, but it's a name that just about everyone has heard of before. He has an extremely common middle name, too. So if he wants to go by that when he gets older that will be fine to us as well.

We are taught that the word is very powerful. Just think how that child must feel if the word (one of the words) that represents him is usually mispronounced and misspelled. Not commonly recognized. Thanks for your response.

Well legally they do, and i think any 1 should be able too. My neighbor changed his last name b/c he had his dad's name, but his dad was out of his life early and his step dad raised him so whether it's first middle or last, i think it's a good right to have.

I think people should. Especially with some of the names parents are giving out these days.
I wanted to change my name as a teenager, but now I like my name. I think by the time you're 18, you would know if you really wanted a new name badly enough.

One of the mylotters here thinks that 18 is much too young. Actors do it all the time. So do crooks. I think the next thing I would ask is if there should be some names that you could not chose.
