Chicken Necks Anyone?

Call me a weirdo, but I love chicken necks. When I get a whole chicken I take out the giblet packet and the neck, rinse them off and put them on the stove to boil while the chicken is cooking. I find the neck to be the most delectable part. Maybe it is due to the fact that my Grandpa would sit me on his lap at the dinner table and share the chicken neck with me. It was our special time. Nobody else got the chicken neck. There isn't much meat on the neck, but it is good eating!

Weirdo....lol just kidding.. I don't think I could even try it. It really looks and sounds too gross for me.. But I used to eat pickled pigs feet with my grandmother..so I guess I'm a weirdo too. I'm not sure I could eat them now...it kind of grosses me out just thinking about it.. My friends favorite part is the little butt piece...lol

My mother would always have a jar of pickled pigs feet in the fridge. I can't remember ever eating them.

I love chicken wings too, especially if they get nice and crispy. The tips become crunchy and quite flavorful.

I love chicken and turkey necks. It is the most sweetiest part of the chicken. Now don't laugh at me ElusiveButterfly, but, I love the feet too. But, they are almost imposible to get anymore. Well, happy neck eating.:)Just make sure it is a chicken.

Turkey necks are wonderful. There is so much meat on them you could almost have it alone.

About the only part of the chicken I won't eat is the giblets. The meat on the neck tastes better because we have to work a bit more at getting at it.But I am a chickenaholic so I am prjudice about chickens.

The giblets are tough and need to boil longer than the neck. They become quite tender and are really good. I remove the gristle from the meat before I eat it.

When we were going through some difficult times financially I used to go out and buy the chicken necks and backs and use them to boil up in a pot of water. When they were all cooked, I would pick out the bones then use the broth & chicken to make up a large pot of soup or stew that would last most of the week. The meat on the necks is actually quite tender and tasty when it's cooked. You just have to watch the bones.

I never realized there was any meat on the neck.lol. I always just threw it away. I may have to try this now. I think it makes it more special when you have a special memory to go along with it.

Oh no I am so sorry I do not like chicken necks at all although I love chicken, probably that is the reason why you enjoy the chicken neck but I can't stand it although my husband does like to eat it. But nobody else in my family likes it either.

No thanks. I just can't take to chicken necks. I see them at the cold meats counter at the supermarket & it turns me off. I guess they would make good stock.

Back in Manila, I remember my grade school days, my classmate, they own this place just around our school, and they have deep fried chicken neck... And it was oh so good! My mom used to buy us that for after school snack, but of course not everyday cause it was kinda oily. But still it's so good! Yah it doesn't have that much meat on it, but it's fun to nibble on. And I have to repeat that deep fried chicken neck is really yummy. Same goes with chicken skin... If only high cholesterol don't kill.... hahaha

Ewww ... I really don't like any of the more 'odd' parts of meat .. can't understand why folks rave over chicken wings (there's no meat on them !) .. chicken feet soup sounds repulsive but I am sure is delicious if you are brought up to eat it .. and any of the 'insides' of animals are just gross and never pass my lips if I can help it .. heheh !!! I'm just really squeamish when it comes to foods .. it has to look 'nice' or I can't even get it past my lips ..

Hey weirdo...(you said I should call you that...lol) we give chicken necks etc to pets. I drool over lamb shanks. They used to cost between 50 cents and 8o cents each and there were two in a pack. Now they are $5.99 or $7.99 a kilogram and still 2 in a pack. I grab them if they're reduced for quick sale but am embarrassed if anyone is watching because most people give these to their dogs!!! For me they are a mini roast lamb dinnerand soooo tasty and succulent and sticky!!!!LOL.

that costs too much. Here in the Philippines you could buy them at less than a dollar per kilo
