Do You Think the Topic of a Discussion Can Increase/Decrease Its Value?

I was wondering if anyone thinks that the actual topic of a discussion could make it worth less, regardless of other characteristics that supposedly are likely to increase earnings, such as good spelling, grammar, length, and number of responses. What do you guys think? I think that some of my discussions aren't earning me anything because they're about music bands or things like that. Some of my responses have even taken up 2 or 3 paragraphs before (I can really get carried away sometimes :), and they all have had good grammar/spelling for the most part.
