I use regular bread, milk, eggs, vanilla and some nutmeg. My trick is to use real butter, not that fake stuff and fry the bread until brown on both sides. I made this for breakfast and I was in heaven.

Well for starters, instead of using regular sandwich bread, I use french bread (hence french toast, lol), but wow! what a difference. I like to use the recipes that call for putting everything together the night before, then baking the next morning.

French Toast Waffles With the help of a waffle iron, you can make a delicious, buttery version of French toast. RECIPE INGREDIENTS: 4-6 bread slices (whole wheat, seven-grain, or white), trimmed if preferred 2 tablespoons butter, melted 1 egg, lightly beaten 1/2 cup milk 1/8 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional) 1. Combine all the ingredients, except the bread. Dip the slices into the mixture, coating well on both sides, but not drenching. Cook the French toast in a well-oiled, hot waffle iron until crisp. This recipe makes four to six waffles.

French Toast with Strawberry Butter - Serve this French toast made with Italian bread topped with flavored butter -- a perfect way to say "I love you."
This is a recipe I found years ago that I like to use opten but it is wonderful for children to use for Mothers or Fathers Day with a little help. French Toast with Strawberry Butter Strawberry Butter Ingredients: 1/2 cup LAND O LAKESĀ® Butter, softened 1/3 cup powdered sugar 1 tablespoon strawberry-flavored preserves French Toast Ingredients: 8 (3/4-inch) slices Italian bread 1/3 cup milk 2 large eggs, slightly beaten 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/4 cup LAND O LAKESĀ® Butter Powdered sugar Combine 1/2 cup butter, 1/3 cup powdered sugar and preserves in small mixer bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy (1 to 2 minutes). Cover; refrigerate until serving time. Cut bread slices with a 2 1/2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter. Combine milk, eggs and vanilla in 9-inch pie plate; mix well. Dip bread into milk mixture, turning to coat both sides. Let stand 1 to 2 minutes. Melt 1/4 cup butter in 10-inch skillet or griddle until sizzling; add bread. Cook, turning once, until golden brown (5 to 6 minutes). To serve, lightly sprinkle hot French toast with powdered sugar; serve with Strawberry Butter. Makes 4 (2-slice) servings. Tip: Spread any remaining Strawberry Butter on bagels or English muffins. Tip: If you do not have a heart-shaped cookie cutter, use a heart-shaped template and sharp knife to cut heart shapes

I don't have a great recipe, but I have my favoite ways of preparing it. I love it made on Texas Toast, or the super thick French Toast bread. I add vanilla to the egg mixture, and top it off to serve it with powdered sugar like in the restaurants. That's it-and of course we serve it up right with butter and syrup!
