How can i transfer the music from my ipod video to my laptop for free?

have my ipod set on automatic, meaning the song and content is automatically updated when i connect my ipod to my house computer. I have a new laptop that i would like to transfer ALL my music to using only my ipod. is that possible? Im taking any suggestions, preferably without having to pay/download anything.
