The dangers of heart worms in cats,

I've been giving my dogs heart worm prevention pills for years, and had no idea that cats can also be affected by them to the detriment of their health.
According the heartwormsociety.org, cats should be on heart worm prevention pills and most cat owners don't know this.
I know my vet never mentioned even testing my cat for heart worm.
Feline heart worm disease has severe implications and it can turn into Heartworm Associated Respiratory Disease or HARD which is often mistaken for upper respiratory infections and even asthma.
Some of the signs and symptoms are:
For acute cases; collapse, dyspnea, convulsions, diarhea, vomiting, blindness, tachycardia, syncope and sudden death.
For chronic cases; coughing, vomiting, dyspnea, lethargy, anorexia, weight loss and chylothorax.
As cat owners and lovers, we need to be aware of the very serious threat to our cats. This is something that is thought of as a dog disease, but apparently it is a very real danger for cats.
I know I will be taking my cat in for a check up and a heart worm test, and preventative pills.

My vet never said anything about this and I never thought to ask. Thank you for sharing:) I'd hate to have my baby get sick because of something completely preventable.
