miami ink is probably the most shop that is widely exposed to public! as you see on their show, they have a variety of designs to choose from... that's why i'm asking how to choose a design, where to put it and when to do it? as simple as that! and also, please share your other ideas about having a tattoo...

Although your right and Miami Ink is large I think Huntington and Hart Tattos in Las Vegas is way more popular. When I got mine I consider all the little things like what it would look like if my skin either streched or shrank, what other people would say and so on. Well I finally decided on a tribal arm band because I like the look of it and it will look alright when I get older and age. One thing I recommend is not getting girls names except for family members.

Choosing a tattoo design is a very personal choice. Tattoos help people express themselves. Choosing a design can be from something you love, or something you're really into. Like, for example, fantasy art (dragons, faires, wizards, pixies), motorcycle art (Harley Davidson, bike engines), memorials (for someone you love passed away), tributes (for someone you love who is still with us), music (guitars, musical notes, band names). As to placement, in my opinion, it should be placed in a spot that can be covered. While tattoos are more widely accepted by the general public now-a-days, there are many folks who still frown at some with ink on them. They still live in the world of "only bad people, or rebels have tattoos". Upper arms, lower back, shoulder blades are good spots to get inked, since a shirt can cover them. Or they can be shown in an appropriate situation. When to do it? After you thoroughly check out the tat studio. Are they clean, do they sterilize their equipment? Do they practice safe tattooing, are gloves worn? Are masks worn? Are they licensed? After your homework is done, and you have the money, make that appointment and go for it!

I've been wanting to get a tattoo for a long time. I want it on the front of my hipbone. My fiance knows Japanese and I want him to write the "Bohemian Ideals" in kanji so I can get them as tattoos. If you've ever seen the movie Moulin Rouge!, the "Bohemian Ideals" are freedom, truth, beauty and love. I want each word small, in a different colour in a straight verticle line right on my hip. My main problem first and foremost is that I have absolutely no pain tolerance and a fear of needles.

For my first tattoo I had the idea in my head for a couple of years, for the second one I had been thinking of it for a couple of months, for the third one I saw it in the Flash book in the tattoo shop and got it immediately, and for my most recent one I just came up with it off the top of my head and printed a random clip art picture off the internet.

What I've learn on the show is to keep your designs simple.Think of where you want you tattoo. Do you want to see it?Do you want your tattoo be seen? What size should it be? Take your time . Look around. You will know your tattoo when you see it.I would find my tattoo and I would draw or copy it so it the size you would want it , and I would use a sharpie and draw it on, so you can see what it will look like before getting done.

I would recommend putting it somewhere that will not be seen when you dress up for job interviews or formal occasions, like on a shoulder blade or arm. For women, it is a little more difficult to choose. You can see their back and arms when they dress formally. Not to mention that lower back tattoos have a bad reputation. XD I'm planning on getting a music note behind my right ear, and a pisces sign on my right hip. I was looking into it the other day. I found one that makes the two fish into a yin-yang. Usually tattoos with tribal markings and stuff are pretty hot. I'm a zodiac person myself, but it all depends on what you're into.

I think that these are all personal decisions. I got mine done when I was in my early twenties. I like unicorns so I got a small one put on my chest. I think you need to think about what you may like and then decide on where you want it. If you want it to show or not? Also the size you may want it? I chose a small one so that I can hide it with clothing....but everyone is different. Just be aware that it is a very painful process. My boyfriend actually passed out when he had his done..so make sure you have some pop or juice with you to keep your sugar levels up...and good luck.

I will choose the dragon tattoos. I prefer the magic words or letters that can protect me from the bullets or knives. If I choose, I will find the really good monks to make me with those magic words. I don't want the evil tattoos and it is hard to delete that.

I have four tattoos each one is my own design. I have a small sleeping dragon on my left arm and above him is a dreamcatcher with a small spider on the web. On the other arm I have a portrait of someone very very special to me and above that I have a styalized picture of The Crow. I have these on my upper arms and each one is fairly small but very detailed. I plan to get another one done as soon as I finish the artwork, this time I have a celtic knotwork pattern for the border and a celtic dragon flying inside.

My partner is a tattoo artist. Having seen 100s of clients come in to have cover-ups done, I suggest really giving some thought to what you are getting and where you are getting it. Ask people who's tattoos you like, who their artist is and if they were satisfied with the work. Someone may have a great looking tattoo of a kitten on their arm, but if it was suppose to be a tiger they're not happy with the piece kwim? Choose something that means something to you, and that you've had an interest in for a long time. Trendy tattoos of what's hot this minute, aren't cool in a couple years. It's one thing to buy a T-shirt with a character from a TV show that's all the rage at the moment, when it's not cool anymore you can throw away the T-shirt- you can't throw away your tattoo. Fees do not always indicate value. Don't base your decision on either extreme with that by assuming someone who's charging too low is a bad artist and someone who charges a lot is a good artist. It just isn't an accurate gauge. Choose your artist based on their work & that their set-up is safe & clean. Ask if you can see where the tattoo will be done, or if you can watch their set-up for another client. Asking to watch them do someone else is tacking imo, the client in the chair has a right to privacy. But watching their set-up will show you if they practice safely. Everything should be wiped down with a disinfectant. A clean, single use pad with plastic backing should be placed under where they'll be working. Needles, and tubes should come out of single use packages. There should be a paper towels where the artist can tear one without touching the whole roll. And this one is more important than you may think- ink should be in disposable cups before the process starts and should NEVER be refilled. If the artist realizes he underestimated how much ink he'd need- he should toss the empty container, remove his gloves grab a new container & fill it up. Best of luck choosing an artist & your new piece.

I always loved butterflies, so when I got brave enough, or was haveing a midlife crisis (whichever you prefer to believe), I went and picked out a butterfly from the local tatoo artist. I think that for girls, having one on the lower back is sexy...that's how I decided.

I used to be one of those people who cannot see the significance of getting a tattoo... until I watched and got hooked with Miami Ink.:-) I suggest though that before you have one (if it's your first time to go under the needle), consider the cons... like the possible impression of other people (like employers, the ladies, if you have a gf - her parents, etc.) about you if they see that you have a tattoo. If you really wanna get one, choose a design that says something about you or that which represents who you are or a symbol of something important in your life. The back is probably a good spot... It'll keep you from being "scrutinized" by "conservative" Pinoys.:-) Good luck!

I would choose my design by my favourite things and things that mean something to me, i am going to get a tatoo hopefully this year by Ami James when i go to Miami for a holiday...hopefully.! Im going to design my own, not sure exactly what it will be yet but will have my sisters name somewhere, the number 4 cause its my lucky number and a music note because i love to sing and will have it all in black and white because colours fade and look bad over time..

as someone with 14 tats, i can tell you that each of my tats mean something to me. while i know some people go into a tat shop and pick a design they think is cool or what have you, i carefully look through design books or come in with an idea of my own. now im sure some of you are trying to picture what a woman with 14 tats looks like.lol i can tell you that no i dont have sleeves. if i didnt want you to know i had tats, you would never know. they are all in places i can hide them if i feel like it. i think where you put them is a personal choice. i think my favorite one is on the back of my neck, it is a tribal son with my son's name underneath it. a son for my son. corny i know but i just love it.

I currently have 5 tattoo's and really want to get more. For me a tattoo is a very personal thing and each and every one of my 5 means something to me and was gotten at a special time in my life and for a specific reason. I would recommend trying to design a tattoo of your own that will mean something special to you. I do not regret any of my tattoo's unlike some of my friends who got cartoon character's and as they are now in their 30's they just look tacky and childish. It is also a good idea to research the shop you plan to use and make sure they have proper hygene standards and are fully qualified. Also ask to see photo's of the tattooist's previous work. Good Luck.

Well, if you haven't already done so: Think about this hard and carefully. Why do you want a tattoo? Getting a tattoo because it looks "cool" and the design is "cool" can lead to regret later, because as we get older, our taste in things change. If you've got an idea of something that is personal to you, and unique to you, and you can see yourself having this same tattoo in 20+ years and liking it, it may be for you. If I'd decided I want a tattoo, I would pick something very personal to me, that has a meaning behind it. I'd have it in a place where no one can see for the sole purpose of this being personal to me. I wouldn't get a tattoo to make a statement. Again for location, I'd have it in a place that wouldn't stretch. This is especially something to consider if you're a woman, because you need to consider things like child birth, weight gain, stretch marks, etc - things that could distort the look of the tattoo. As we get older, out bodies change, so think of a place where the tattoo would not get distorted or stretched out too much. As for when to do it? When you've considered all of this and decided that this is 110% what you want to do :)

I have two tattoos. I like them a lot, but I have to say I thought a lot about it before I went to have them made. I thought about whrere I was going to put them, since I didn't want them to show too much. I worked in an office, so it wouldn't look too good if I arrived with a tattoo on my hand or face, etc. My first one can only be seen by my boyfriend, or when I wear a bikini. The other one is on the back on my right shoulder. As of the design, I think you have to choose one that represents you in a way. Don't just go and get tattooed with a chinese sign or a butterfly just because it's popular or something like that. Many people did, and they regret it a lot. I have a chinese symbol, but I chose it because it's meaning represents me. It has a personnal meaning to me.

I really like watching Miami Ink, especially to see what sort of tattoos other people want. I don't have a tattoo myself. Because a tattoo is a permanent thing I would have to be a 100% sure about what I want. If I want to have a tattoo it has be an original design that no one else has and the tattoo has to mean something. It has to represent who I am. I'm not sure where I would put it. Probably on my ankle or something.

I have three tattoo's, all of which were drawn by me. I am a firm believer in you should get something original and to your personality. Tattoo's should mean something, for instance on of my tattoo's. One of my tattoo's is a crescent moon, with stars a pair of roses and a cross on a chain from the top of the moon. The stars for my love of stargazing, the moon for my hobbies in photography, the cross for my belief in god, the roses for my love of life. Your tattoo should mean something to you, should be something you'll like forever. SilentRose
