Lab-Created Gems vs Mined Gems

Ok so my girlfriends birthday is coming up in about a month and a half and I am one to start looking early. In the past she has mentioned that she doesn't have a ring with her birthstone in it but would like one. I have been looking online now for rings with Emeralds in them (gold only because sterling silver breaks her out). I looked at the reasonably priced jewelers such as Kay Jewelers, Zales and what not but noticed most of them sell "Lab-Created" gems; however, some random sites I have stumbled across don't mention anything about them being lab-created so i'm assuming they are mined. Basically my question is mainly directed toward the female population because its a personal opinion answer I suppose. Personally if your husband or boyfriend bought you a white gold ring with small diamonds and a "lab-created" gem in it would it be frowned upon? If so why? and If not why? I'm not looking for an answer like "if she is materialistic then she will care" because shes not like that, i'm just someone who doesn't want to buy something that is quality and that she can't show off if she wanted to.

I think that technically speaking it does matter.. a mined gem is an authentic gem and therefore looked upon as a better grade. A man made gem is pretty much nothing more then a piece of glass or stone, etc. that is highly polished and set. I think both are beautiful and for the most part an average person won't really know the difference but if you're looking to buy the "better product" I believe that the mined gem is more authentic.

I agree with the fact that it is more authentic; however, just for the record a lab-created gem claims to be exactly like a real one when it comes to color, material and all of that. I believe what you are thinking about are the actual fake ones that are made from glass, there would be no way that I would purchase that.
