Does This Happen to You too?

I have often noticed a weird phenomenon that happens whenever I take an interest in somethign new.. a new style of clothes, a new kind of car I would like to have, a certain kind of food or soft drink..or hairstyle..or a certain breed of dog, for instance.. I can go through my days and never notice the things..not notice the kind of car on the road, or not see the product I like in the stores..then as soon as I discover it and decide I am interested in the thing, I see it EVERYWHERE..and its suddenly very popular. For instance, I've been thinking of maybe buying a car. There are a lot of different cars I like and might love to have, but my top choices right now are the Dodge Caliber and the Honda Element...I also like the Ford Vibe, but I don't like Fords very much, so that's 3rd choice..I never used to see them anywhere, now everywhere I go I see Elements and Calibers and Vibes. I know in the case of the Caliber, its a relatively new kind of car, so It could only be recently that they've been popular, but still I see them everywhere. So, is it that they were always there and I never noticed them.. do I only notice them now because I've got an interest in them? Or..did they all of a sudden just become really popular at the time I discovered I liked them? Its the same thing with dogs. I love Boston Terriers ..and for a while I thought of getting one, as soon as I thought I might like one, I started seeing them everywhere. People I know, friends of mine online, suddenly started getting them, and suddenly they were the most popular dog in commercials. Now that I have a great dane..it seems like they're EVERYWHERE..and before I never saw them. So is the breed just now becoming very popular..or am I just only noticing them now? I know of 4 or 5 commercials right now that have great danes in them..Lucy and Kevin on 7th Heaven got a dog..they got a great dane..just in the small area of my town where I live..where there really isn't a lot of people living in this area.. there are at least 3 other people who have great danes ..I'm talking like within a mile of me! What do you think? Does this happen to you too?

this seems to happen to me as well.. i think it happens because once we realize we like (or even dislike) something you get more tuned into it.. there is always so much going on around us and i think our brains just kind of trash what is not needed, which i think is why we dont notice these things until we have the like or dislike for them, or the interest in the subject ect..

hmmm..yeah, that must be it. In that case, I wonder how much of life we don't notice and how much we miss out on simply because we filter things out. ::shrug::

I would tend to agree that these things are probably everywhere to begin with and we don't notice them because we are not looking for them, or don't have the mental frame of reference that tell us they are important for one reason or another. As for your car choices, pretty good blend on that list, however take it from me that you really don't want to own a dodge, especially one thats only been out for a year. I got a first year neon and it's like a test car, everything went wrong with it.

Yeah, I think you're probably right..we probably just don't notice until its something that concerns us directly..except for the dog breed thing, thats just strange that all of a sudden great danes are on TV everywhere and everyone has one or knows someone who does. but I'm sure theres some logical explanation for that too :O))

I know exactly what you mean.. and I thought I am unique! :P However, I have no explanation for that. In fact, I always prefer to think that people like copying me! :PP

This has indeed happened to me. I bought a Volkswagen once (the old-style beetle), and all of a sudden there were VW's all over the road where there were none before. I figured, as you have, that my "VW radar" had been enhanced by the fact that I now owned one. Or, as you have alternatively theorized, maybe I started a trend and now everyone rushed out to buy a VW!
