Is jealousy healthy in a relationship?

They say that jealousy is the spice in every relationship and without it life would be boring. But is it reslly healthy in a relationship. how can you say jealousy is still healthy when you spend most of your time together arguing over someone that does not exist? up to what extent is it healthy?
