I have been reading in several magazines about the new Indoor Walking craze. Has anyone tried this with any success or read about it? Let me know! I am very interested!

in one of our previous duty stations they marked off an area inside a hanger that was a 10th of a mile, so in inclimate weather we would go there - knowing that ten times around would equate a mile. We would have our music and our friends together to encourage us to keep moving... conversation was good at the start which also helped make the time seem less a burden, but towards the end of 5 miles I had a hard time talking. lol. In both previous duty stations they had a trail around the golf course for walkers - the golf courses were always so well groomed and landscaped that it was such a pleasure to walk around - the side of the walk not on the course was lined with many trees which provided good shade. on the one trail the air strip was passed at a certain area so if we needed a break we could sit on the bench and watch the planes take off and land. That was nice, but if there were golfers on the course I always had a bit of fear of being bonked on the head *FOUR!*

I like walking when there is a nice scenic view. Sometimes walking can be so boring! I don't blame you for having a hard time walking after five miles! Music and friends always help ease the burden and keeps you moving. I used to walk near a golf course and I always was afraid of stray balls coming at me LOL!

I know that people will don a pair of sneakers and go to the local mall and walk from one end to the other. My problem would be stopping by a store and buying something.

LOL, I know how that goes! I too would have that very problem. I love to shop! I guess the pulling your wallet out of your purse and pulling your bank card out and putting it back in would count as upper body workout LOL!

I will definitely have to try that. I never even considered the indoor walking with mall walking. That is what we call it back home. I thought that was pretty humorous, but it is indoor walking! I will hopefully make some new friends here, being I am in a new place and see if anyone would be interested!

i used to walk indoors at a mall nearby. they would open up early for people who want to walk. i did this only in the winter. summer is fine for being outside! i did do more window shopping than walking.,,and then i would wait for the stores to open so i could shop. crazy!

LOL, I would be scared to walk at the mall. I would do much the same as you do! I am a shopaholic! That is good that the mall opens up early to let people in that enjoy doing it.

I walk in my living room! I walk to Denise Austin: Walk off the pounds dvds. They have me walking three miles in 45 minutes but you are walking pretty fast and you are doing other things such as, knee lifts, taps, etc. The last mile you use weights and while you are walking, you work on your arms. I love the dvds. I'm able to walk three miles in 45 minutes even if its raining outside. I would strongly suggest those. Also, I used to work at Sams Club and we had this woman who would come in every morning, grab a cart, and go around the store like ten times. She would do this on the days it was raining. She would occasionally pick up a few items but most of the time she would just walk around the store. She was really thin, so I guess it worked! Good luck!

well actually you can indoor walking to your routine easily. When you go shopping you can walk up and down all the aisle at the store 3 to 4 times .That can take up to an hour or so which does kill several calories while you can get your shopping dones as well. I do this at least 3 days a week. I have lost 12 lbs in the last 10 weeks .

That is a great idea. I will have to implement that into my shopping. Kill two birds with one stone as they say! Good for you on losing 12 lbs! Congratulations, it is hard work I know!

Its not all that new actually...I know of a group of older women back home who get together every morning and indoor walk around the shopping mall...not casual strolling, not window shopping, they go there to walk at a quick pace and actually do laps around the shopping centre...

I have seen this. I didn't really consider it indoor walking LOL! When I was reading the magazine, it was talking about walking in a 10 by 10 space in your home, Leslie Sansone has those indoor walking dvd's and I guess she is very popular, I didn't even connect the mall walking! LOL It is indoor walking isn't it? That is a good idea, that would break the monotony of the treadmill at home!
