Does teenage obesity scare anyone else? I mean these kids are the future of our country and they are in trouble. I am overweight, so I know just how much trouble they are in and how they need to do something now. What are your concerns? Here is an article I wrote about teenage obesity if anyone is interested !! http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/182218/teenage_obesity_a_living_nightmare.html

Teenage obesity is definently a a problem today. As someone who has struggled with weight problems all their life it is very important for something to be done as soon as possbile because it effects your entire life and can cause serious health products. You know this is a serious issue when we are are discussing legislation banning snack foods from vending machines. In a lot of schools they have replaced soda machines with water bottles and candy bars with fruit and vegetables. I think this is a step in the right direction. For the most part kids are not active enough today. The parents have to take some blame for this b/c when i was younger i wasn't allowed to stay inside watching tv all day or playing video games. And I didn't get a ride everywhere. I had to walk to school and I spent a lot of time outside. I also think both parents are working more and when they get home instead of cooking a home cooked meal they are stopping by McDonalds.

Whenever I drive past schools where the kids are getting out, I'm always amazed at how many of them are overweight, or even obese. Back when I was in high school (in the 60's) there were only a few kids in each school who were seriously overweight. I believe that some of the reasons for this are: fast food, hours of playing video games, too much tv, lack of sufficient physical activity.

Not only does it scare the hell out of me, if i think about it too much it makes me cry. I once was a a fat kid and that turned into an obese teenager. Since then I have lost over 36 kilos and feel much better for it. Every time I drive past a school and see fat kids playing I want to reach out and hold them. When I see them buying a whole heap of junk food at our local supermarket I want to tell them not to do it and that you will regret it. I hope it one day changes. ps: Loved the article! If only there were more active people to stop this from happening
