i do agree that they should be blocked at some certain areaas like hospitals since a lot of medical equipments can be disrupted with frequencies but like restaurants and other places i think its a courtesy to just put your phone in silent mode there are still instances that a call might get thru and might be important to the owner

i agree the silent mode is the my polite alternative especially if you waiting for an important call. I know this week i was waiting for a call about a bid on a home we were buying i needed the phone at all times but i had it on vibrate and excused myself and returned the call in a quiet spot thanks for responding Cheryl

Yes it is justified and I wish that more places would block the use of cell phones! I cannot stand to go out for a quiet, relaxing meal and listen to someoone's cell phone ring endlessly and hear their entire conversation! One spends a great deal on a meal when they eat at a restaurant and it should be an enjoyable experience. It seems like good 'ole common sense that a cell phone should not be on in a theater or movies, but alas, there are those who feel they MUST take a call. Again, I have paid a great deal of money to be in that theater and do not want to hear their conversation!

I believe a cell phone ban in variuos establishments is justified. Many hospitals ban the use of cell phones, as they could interfere with equipment. Also, in restuarants & movies, it is very annoying to be constantly disturbed by ringing or beeps, particularly o movies. I don't think retuarants ban cell phones in Australia, but most people are polite & turn them off.

Sure they should be blocked in certain areas- For instance a hospital- because they could interfers with machinery and peoples lives. I think people should just shut them off or put them on vibrate only in movie theaters.. It's common courtesy- Restaurants-- I have no problem with people using them here- Its not like I'm paying attention to the people sitting around me- I'm paying attention to the person I'm with.

yes, we have to understand that cell phones should be block in places where it is needed. And we users must know how to follow simple rules and regulations. I believe that there's a good reason in this and we have to abide.

Sure it's justified. For the most part these establishments are private property and one must abide by the rules that they set. They are only enforcing those rules.

It depends on the situation too, in a theatre, people shouldn't be making any noise. In a restaurant, it depends on the restaurant and how loud the person it. One thing is that instead of trying ensure that it can't, say something and take action if necessary when it does happen. Just as you can't actually ensure that someone can't smoke in a restaurant (while still allowing them to breathe), and therefore would tell them to put it out, and if they won't, make them leave, restaurants and other places where it is an issue can choose to adopt the same policy on cell phones. In relation to depending on the restaurant, it depends on if they're sitting in a McDonalds, or outdoors at a place by the beach, or someplace nicer, different rules and etiquette apply to different places. Justified or not, consumer concerns over cell phone health risks have given rise to a number of accessory products marketed with claims of protecting cell phone users from radiofrequency radiation. both misrepresented their products by claiming that they protected the health of cell phone users by blocking up to 99 percent of radiation and other electromagnetic energy emitted by their phones. These companies are using a shield of misrepresentation to block consumers from the facts.

Definitely not! Why can't people take calls at those places? I would understand only if it is e.g. a military installation. :P
