Do you put your shopping cart back?

When shopping at the supermarket, do you put your cart back in the cart return? Or do you leave it in the parking lot? I try to always put mine back in the cart return so it doesn't roll away and hit someones car.

I have to admit I sometimes (vary rarely) put the cart back in the cart return, simply because I have a small child and my husband isn't here to put it up (he's in the military). I'm worried about taking the cart back while my son's in the car, and I don't like leaving my items in the car alone while my son and I put the cart away. I've never had a nice enough car to care if a cart hits it, so naturally it doesn't bother me. Also I make sure that the cart is secured down before I leave, that way it causes no problems. Do you think that this causes a big problem for other shoppers?

I think it becomes a problem if the cart starts rolling. Those carts can do alot of damage when they hit a car hard.

Here in my area you have to pay $1 or $2 to use the shopping trolleys. You get the money back when you return the trolley - so most people put trolleys back now. If they don't, someone else will return the trolley and get to keep the money.. I like the idea myself. I was sick of my car being hit or not being able to use a car spot because people were too lazy to put the trolleys back. This way seems to work really well..

I know at Aldi's, you have to pay a quarter for the cart, but if you put the cart back, you also get your quarter back. It's so funny, but most people go back for that quarter!

I would say about 99% of the time but also on the odd occasion for whatever reason I don't put it back . I never thought of it rolling into someone else's vechile . I have always tried to put it back because I was thinking of the person who would have to do this because I didn't and don't like the idea of making more work for someone else .

The other day I was at Walmart and it was very windy out. I got in my car and saw a shopping cart (not mine!) blowing across the parking lot and smacked right into someones car. Ouch! Made me wonder how many times my own car must have gotten hit with a cart and I never knew about it.

I always put it back unless a handsome bag boy is walking by and offers to take it :P There is a store up here where I live that you use a quarter to get the cart (the carts are attached by a chain and the quarter releases it) and then when you put the cart back, your quarter is returned. I think it's a good way to stop people leaving carts in the lot. And you may think, it's just a quarter right? I have NEVER seen one of their carts loose in the parking lot.

After seeing what happened in a supermarket car park once I always without fail take the time to push the trolley back and make sure it's fully secure. I saw one woman finish packing her shopping and without bothering to look around, shove her trolley out of the way, the trolley actually went into a parked car but did she look round, did she hell? She couldn't have cared less and boldly got into her car and drove off. I would have been angry if that trolley had hit my car, even if it hadn't of made a dent, it was her attitude.

I absolutely put my cart back in the cart return. Even today when it was raining and looked like it was going to really storm, I put it in the return. I feel sorry for the kids who have to traipse all over the parking lot collecting the carts that others are too lazy to put back.

I also always put my shopping cart back. I hate it when I try to park in a spot but I can't because there is a shopping cart in my way! I try to do things that I would wan't done. I also worry about the cart rolling into someone's car.

I try to each time. I went to Wal-Mart today and parked right next to a cart return. One problem though...the cart return was full of carts! When I was done shopping I put my cart in as best as I could with the other carts. Where the heck was the attendant that is supposed to gather up all these carts??? He/she certainly wasn't doing their part even though I did mine.

Oh yes, I've had that happen many times at Walmart. Their cart returns are often full of carts.

Me too I always try to put my shopping cart back. And when I go shop I always pick the shopping carts that have not been put back as I know somebody else will have to do the work of collecting them and puttin them back.

Yes, I always take the cart to the cart return. I just hate it when an empty parking spot ends up being occupied by a cart.

I hate that also. You get all ready to pull into a parking spot and there's a cart there. You have to either get out and move it or try to find another spot. Ugh!

I always put my shopping cart back, it doesn't matter how far away we are, how much it is raining, how cold it is, etc. I hate when others do not do the same, I don't know how many times I have seen, on a windy day, a cart take off across the lot and hit a car. Or when the cart is taking up a spot that someone could have parked in. Very annoying. On a related note, why is it that there aren't cart corrals at the end of the parking lots? The all seem to be in the closest spots. I think putting a few at the back of lots (particularly on those days where the lots are very full, ie: holiday time) would be helpful

Hmmm that's a very good question. I never see cart corrals at the end of parking lots.

I try to get it to the right place or at least secured. I don't shop much now as it tires me out quickly.

I always return my shopping cart t the little fenced in area after I am done. If I can get away with it, I will take the bags out before leaving the store so I don't have to worry about walking halfway across the parking lot to find one. There have been several times that I ahve caught a cart right before it hit my car, it just makes me wonder how many time I didn't catch it, but ther ehas been no damage that I can see.

I return it always and I dont like to see people taking it home and leaving anywhere when done..it as bad and tey could be fined upto $500 in US. Now in U it is fun to see most of the store U have to deposit a pound to take the cart....so people generall return it to get back the coin....hahaha

I and my husband when we go to a store we usually put back the shopping cart to avoid damages of others car too. I saw some customers that they just put the shopping cart where it belong and its dangerous.

We always put our cart in the cart return. To me, it's just rude to leave it loose in the parking lot. Unless, of course, you are physically unable to take it to the return. But, you could have someone do it for you.
