My early views on the MyLot changes

After taking time to absorb some of the changes that were made to MyLot today, I decided to give my opinion of the upgrade and some of the things that I like & dislike about the changes I have noticed so far. I know everyone uses the site differently and have different opinions about the changes and how they have been affected by them. I purposely stayed away from these discussions today as I wanted to form my own opinions first before starting to share them. When I logged in this evening, I happened to notice a discussion asking for my opinion, so I jumped straight to responding. After giving my opinion, I decided to paste my response into my own discussion and hope that no one considers this cheating since I am pasting it in as a quote rather than retyping it. When you get to the end, please let me know how you feel about the changes MyLot has made. I know this is only the first day, but I'm really looking forward to discussing some of the things you have noticed that I may not have yet, and I'm hoping we can share our findings on any new tips or tricks to help speed up the learning period. Quote Hi stephcjh. I've only been here a month myself and was actually getting very comfortable with navigating the site, enough that I've been able to assist several new members with how to do things I had already explored. When I saw the new layout earlier today I had the same feeling of disappointment since everything looks so different. To me the timing couldn't have been worse, so I just logged back out. I was a little panicked when I checked my profile page a little while later and saw all my hard work of making my profile page "just so" was gone. As I started seeing the new hotlinks, I was thinking that all those tips I had been passing along were now outdated & irrelevant. Talk about deflated! I had other things to do so I signed out again, disappointed that I would have to start all over again. When I logged back in later, I saw the alert & was relieved to see that we would be able to make changes to the page. I must say I was relieved to see some of my stuff from the profile page had returned, even if it wasn't where I had put it. Just knowing that I would be able to make some changes was good enough for me. I was happy enough to log out again & get the rest of my chores for the day done. When I logged in again a little bit ago, I realised even more changes were taking place as I started exploring the differences I was noticing. I have to tell you I just about freaked when I commented on another members photo & saw a (0) beside my name! I had to jump to the first discussion on the page to make sure all my 600+ posts hadn't been reset or something. Since I had never posted a comment onto another members photo before, I didn't realise that there were different counters. Talk about feeling like a newbie, LOL! Anyway, as I was away from the site off and on today as the changes were being implemented, I kept telling myself that the changes should prove profitable for MyLot and therefore, hopefully, it's members. Naturally, I was formulating my own discussion about the likes & dislikes, compliments/complaints of the new changes. Talk about a hot topic! Since I have only been here for a month, I am still learning anyway so I don't mind figuring out how to navigate the site a little differently. I know the more we explore the site, the more money MyLot can generate and share with it's members so I think the benefits will surely outweigh the minor inconvenience of learning our way around again. I hope you don't mind, but I'm taking a copy of my response to start a new discussion of my own. It's the first time I've commented on the changes and I would like to make sure my friends also have a chance to hear my early views on the changes. I'm looking forward to having more discussions about this and how they feel about the changes they may have noticed too. :)

It is normal that you did not like the new layout. Most people are resistant to change. Maybe it is too early for members here to give an opinion about the new layout. I am part of another forum. Once, the admin changed the site's layout and many members complained that they were lost. A few days later, these same members congratulated the admin for the new layout. It takes time for everybody to adapt to changes. Personally, I like the layout.

LOL, it was such a big change, it took a while to absorb, but I'm learning to like it. First impressions aren't always lasting impressions. As I explore, I'm finding some things easier to do than before. Having the ability to make changes easily should soothe some ruffled feathers. :)

it is ok my friend I felt the same way when I logged on the morning and the first thing that went through my mind was dang all that work I did to get my profile the way I want it was gone but I guess it is for the best to stay up with the times. I have now redid my profile and will be adding more to it in time. good luck on yours cant wait to see how you do yours.

I've been busy making changes, that's for sure! Talk about a (re)construction zone! LOL Wow, yours is dark, but at least you can see the links right below your discussion. When I did mine before, I was still fairly new and I followed some directions in a discussion to make them change to a different color if someone had left a new comment. It really made it easy to tell at a glance if there was a discussion needing a reply or when someone left a comment on someone elses discussion after you did. I don't remember how I did it though & now I'm going to have to figure out which discussion it was. I can't remember if I left a comment there or not so it may not be in my list of replies and I haven't managed to figured out which keywords to use to find it again with the search feature yet. Has anyone figured out how to do this yet? I'd appreciate any help!

I think the blogs are a great idea and the html area will help people list there affiliates they are seeking referrals for. That way they don't have any excuse for posting them in discussions any longer! Also, If you can run up a smaller version of your business website you can get it in the html area and, hopefully, draw a little favorable traffic your way. This means you can spend time relaxing on mylot instead and not feel quite so guilty about not pounding the pixels for business.

Very wise thinking indeed SageMother! I had already been working towards that on my profile page, and that's why I was so disappointing to see that they had all disappeared. I'm so glad all that work wasn't lost, lol. I've started editing it again to get it back into a more pleasing layout. The changes have made it a lot easier to do than I thought it would be. :) I haven't taken the time to check out the new blog link yet, but that should definately help MyLot & everyone else. I've got a few blogs so I look forward to exploring that some more later. :)

I don't really like the new changes. I liked my profile. I tried to "edit" it to make it better and lost all my links. Now I can't get any links to stick. I know at some point in time I will get used to the changes but untill then I am lost.

Which links did you lose? I checked your profile & saw the stuff that should be there. Did you lose your html links?
