Does your country have any kind of a national dish? How is it named and do you like it? Abroad says, the german national dish is knuckle of pork with cabbage, but this is not really true. we don't have a real national dish. Are there special days you enjoy your national dish?

In the UK the favourite dish is supposed to be Chicken Tikka Massala, which is a really popular type of curry, made with chicken, yoghurt and garam massala spices. I don't think we have a national dish, although in Germany I was told that it was fish and chips! Some people in the UK still eat fish and chips from the chip shop, especially on Friday evenings, but we don't have a good chip shop where I live, and I think its much rarer now than it used to be. There is also an idea that British people eat a lot of roast beef. This is less true in recent times, not just because of mad cow disease. Some families probably still sit down on Sundays for their roast dinner but it is as likely to be lamb or chicken as beef.

Yes, fish and chips can be really nice or really horrible! It depends on the shop and what oils/fish etc they use.

I think you are absolutly right about Germany.....I'm from there by the way. It's pretty much the same here in the States.....there is so much diversity in food now....that it's really hard to name just one dish.

I don't think my country (USA) has a "National Dish".....though I could be wrong. I have met a lot of people from different countries who seem to think that all we Americans eat are hamburgers, hot dogs, and french fries! I always find that amusing, because it isn't true at all. Sure, we love our fast food here (not me), but most of us cook a variety of different foods.

I am not sure whether India has a national dish. But the most popular dish in India is dal and rice. This dish is popular among the rich as well as the poor. It is not only economical but easy to make and nutritious. People from all the corners of the country enjoy it although it is made in different ways.
