Don't get me wrong,I love them and even have one hanging outside my entrance way.....the problem is my neighbor.....she has about 50 or more hanging all around the eaves of her house and my bedroom window is only about 4 feet away from her house. The last few days and nights have been really windy, and loud.Everyone on the street is complaining about the noise. You can't even watch TV during the day because you can't hear it.We've tried talking to her,she doesn't care.....it's her house, she says and I agree but we are neighbors and you have to have respect for each other.....as a community on the street,we have decided to get signatures and take it to Town Hall and have her remove some of them.....we don't want them all gone, just the real big, noisy ones.....did we do right? What would you do in this situation?

My goodness, I would be upset myself. I mean some people can overdue things huh...lol Well, just as you, I would go to the neighbor and explain to her about the noise, if a few could be removed so that it's not so loud at night when people are trying to sleep. If she don't do it, I would actually find out what legal actions I could take to have her removed some. In your case you are getting signatures, that's always a plus. I know me and my sleep at night, if I am awaken by something like chimes, I'm cranky very cranky. I say you did the right thing and hope she has to remove some of them

I think you are doing the right thing here.If you tried talking to her and she just ignores you.....what choice do you have? I mean yeah....it's her house....but if them things are that loud and I know they can be....than that falls under disturbing the peace and there are laws against that. It sucks that some people have to be like that....maybe they should live out in the country somewhere....so they can do as they please...without disturbing others. I'm not sure if I would have been that nice.....but yes...you did the right thing.

I would first try to talk to your neighbor and if that didnt work then I would do what you were going to do. I would also be aggravated about the noise. I have to have complete silence in order for me to get some sleep.LOL I really do understand were your coming from. I hope something will be done about it.

Thank you for your response.....we have tried talking to her, twice and both times she closed the door on us and said 'it's her house'.....

I think that should be considered disturbing the peace. You are not asking her to remove them all so she should try and compromise if she does notthen you could play some loud music and open your windows.

I'd love to do that but when you have 2 young children in bed you can't....I do it during the day but she never says anything....it's the night time that bothers us and the police say they really can't do anything.....maybe the town can.....I'm hoping

I would have done the same thing. You all tried to talk to her and her take is it is her house. That is fine but she has also to take in consideration that she can not do something that disrupts the whole neighbor hood. You all are not asking her to get rid of all of them just some of the louder ones. Not to much to ask at all. When you live in a neighborhood you have to take them in consideration on some things. This is one of them.

You did your best and that is all anyone can do. I read the comments here and as you know we all agree with you. You tried to reason with her but there was no way. It is not just you that are affected either but everyone in the neighbor hood. You all are reasonable, she is being unreasonable. You sound like a level headed person.

I think you did right. You talked nicely to her but she just won't listen. I agree you have no choice but to take it one level up. 1 or 2 is fine.. but 50??? Goodness! :P

That's why I feel you did right. If she is not being considerate, you have to stand up for your own right.

First I would call the police and have them over to hear exactly what you and others are complaining about . Once they hear what your talking about maybe they`ll tell her to remove them , or atleast some of them . Then I would take it to city hall . For sure some people just have no respect for others and then why should the whole town respect her ... I do think you all did the right thing , you have no reason to feel bad for wanting peace in your own home ... GOOD LUCK with this , let us know what happens . I do hope it swings your way ....

Windchimes are good at times but not always, especially not in windy season.. we have one windchime hanging in our courtyard, just outside my bedside window.., and it at times irritates me to the limit... and i have to get up in the middle of the night to take it down.. and the next day my mom puts it back in the place.. both of us are always fighting over the issue.. neither she can convince me nor i can convince her.. one wind chime irritates me so much.. i cant even think what MANY windchimes would be doing to you.. what you did is absolutely right.. wish even i could do something like that... :)

I'm glad she's not my neighbour, I can't stand windchimes the noise just goes right through me. I saw an old Austrailian Thriller/Horror movie years back (I have no idea of the name) and it scared the H..l out of me, some old shack with lots of windchimes making noises when the scary bit happened. So I think you've done the best thing, hopefully the town can do something about her noise pollution.

you know one popular idiom/say: "Take the thorn with another thorn". If here is any favourable dish for these windchimes, you can make them dragged to any other place. play some tactics.

Hahaha =) I think your neighbor's too much.. Well, also have wind chimes on our entrance door, but those are the small ones, just so we know if someone entered our front door. I think you did what's right, and in a good way. And yes, respect is also important. I guess if she doesn't want to remove her huge wind chimes, then you'll just have to live with it. It's not a crime anyway. But if the whole neighborhood starts to complain, then she has got to take those wind chimes away! LOL =)

OMG... 50 windchimes??? that is really too much... i can imagine the noise that they make... you definitely have to report your neighbour to the body corporate and tell them your situation... yes, sign a petition and submit it to the town hall... that is a good move... good luck...

I don't see that you and your neighbors had any other choice but to seek help from Town Hall. The lady left you no choice. Apparently she is one of those types of people who have no regard for others. I would be mortified if I felt that I was bothering my neighbors. Of course, I would never hang 50 windchimes, as they would keep ME awake too! Ha!

Well,as I said, our houses are only about 4 feet apart and some of the chimes are as big as 2-3 feet in length and 4 or more inches around.....when they hit, they echo all throught the neighborhood

I think in the circumstances with you talking nicely to her and her refusing to take any of them down, you did the right thing. I also wonder if it might be worth a last ditch effort to talk to her. tell her that you have collected signatures to take to town hall to hand in, but if she'll remove some of the wind chimes you won't do it. Maybe if she realizes that everyone is against her, she might rethink. I myself am a fan of Wind chimes, although I don't have any hanging as of yet, but 50 or more of them is going way overboard. I hope you get this resolved soon and in a satisfactory manner.
