I watched Serenity yesterday and I when I saw it I taught, will the future be like this, I have no id, but so many films show different futures for us, I wonder witch one is right, everything is possible and there are so many options for humans to do, how will it all turn out.

There is a Serenity/Firefly podcast called "The Signal", and they once did a whole piece of the science of Firefly, how likely it was that this could be the future and all that...I can't remember all the deatils, but it was pretty interesting. Check it out in Season one of The Signal: http://signal.serenityfirefly.com/ I think the gist of it was, it could be our future, possible with some modification, but it wouldn't be for thousands of years, even the year that Serenity is set in is too soon. I do think having an English/Chinese mix of cultures is pretty popular, and it does seem likely that eventually we will use up all the earths resources and have to look elsewhere for for a place to live. I love the frontier style that we see also. I think that seems pretty realistic.

I think that the way the future is envisioned in Firefly/Serenity is really quite interesting. When/if humans need to leave the Earth, how are things going to pan out? and how will the government set up? I don't think it's an outrageous idea to think that the two main world powers are going to be in control, however, who's to say that the two world powers that make up the Alliance are going to be the strongest centuries from now. I like to look at Sci-Fi often as an iterpretation of what the writers things could happen based on where we are now. Right now we are using up our resources and that could lead to a poitn where we are going to have to make some drastic changes. This could lead to a lot of different outcomes and a future like that in Serenity might happen. Problem is that I don't think technology is moving fast enough to terraform the planets at the rate we are going. So, no, I don't know what the future holds or what sci-fi show is probably closest to what we might expereice, but they are great ways to think about how the issues we are facing today could have an effect on our future tomorrow and long after.
