Plagiarism How do they tell

This is something I have always wondered how does AC and teachers for that matter tell if something is plagiarized. Is there like a place they can copy and paste and it will search or what. What do they consider plagorism? Do they consider taking something and putting it into your own words plagorism? I have always wondered these things.

There are actually a couple of different programs...copyscape and turnitin.com both check for plagiarism and are used extensively by universities. The problem is they sometimes reject as plagiarism things that legitimately quote other material. And, I'm not sure the AC every checks for plagiarism.

But even when they reject a quote on turniton.com, it shows up highlighted so that the professor can see that the quote was done properly.

I am sure that they must have a program. I've heard that college professors do it to make sure their students aren't plagarizing, so I would assume that a site involved with copyright issues would want to be sure that the material they are publishing won't get them into legal battles, particularly over a few dollars worth of revenue. With all the ideas people have and so many ways to frame a story, I don't know why anyone feels the need to cheat by copying someone else's work. There's got to be easier ways to earn money than stealing.
