How many people go by a nickname? Is it because you aren't fond of your given real name? It isn't that I don't like my first name, it is just that it is a bit stuffy for me. My husband doesn't like his first name so he goes by his middle name. Is this pretty common? All of my children go by nicknames or a shortened version of the name we gave them.

haha, poor Elkhawk, is that your name? or a nickname? I like my name, I only have 1 name: Adrian, and as you can see it is nairdA backwards. So well, I think it's pretty much because real names are a bit long, I ask my good friends to call me Addie, and I also make shortened versions of their names. Like my ex girlfriend was Erika, and I called her Eri, and before her there was Ebbie, Sophie... Just because it's cute and easier to say, but I liked her names a lot. Same with me.

On the internet I believe in a way that it is just safer to go by a nickname. I like my real name but it is kinda common and it is nice to come online and not have to type my real name for I use it so often when not on line so In all reality I just feel safer using a nickname.

I really like my name though its little bit long and others find it hard to pronounce so they just call me by my nickname. Others would call me by my nickname and others would call me by my real name. But it doesn't bother me at all.
