I will first say I am happy to be on your friends list and I hope we will be able to work together on myLot. We bought our house (Not New) in 1999 and we very much enjoy the yard and the house. I very much doubt we will ever purchase another one. When buying a second hand house you need to be very careful. You said you put an offer down on a new house, does that mean new to you or is it a brand new one. Our friends
daughter and son-in-law bought a nice looking house that was supposed to be in good shape, and after they bought it and had moved in they decided to peel the wall paper off the wall because it was lifting anyway and they found their worst nightmare. There was black mould and as they investigated the rest of the house the problem was very serious. It isn't clear to me why there was nothing that could be done. I thought when you sold a house it had to be up to code but apparently not. The previous owners had even wrapped some of the pipes with toilet paper just to make the sale. So for anyone buying a used home please do your homework. It could wind up costing you a fortune. Thank You and Take Care...

Thanks for your response.
Certainly, this house is new to us, but not new. It was built in the 70s. Believe me, we will inspect everything, I'm an engineer, so the structural, electrical, plumbing and things don't pass me by. I also had to tear down the bathroom in my old house and redo it from the ground up due to black mold, so I know about those things as well.
My first house, I bought on my own when I was 24 and had it for 8 years. We had some ups and downs together, but nothing major. I know how to look for structural damage, leaks, etc. And now I know about black mold too... I don't always like brand new homes... sometimes they are a nightmare. At least older homes have settled, and often were built with better materials than some of these new homes that are slapped up in 2 weeks!

I agree with you the older homes were built when lumber was real wood and everything was so much better manufactured. Thank You so much for best response and good luck with your new home. It's good to make these moves when you're still young. We're still making house payments and at our age we're finding it pretty darn hard as we've had serious health issues. I now always advise do it while you're young which is real good advice. Take Care

We just moved into our new home. It's the second for both of us, but the first for us together as a married couple. We both owned our own homes before we met. it can be scary, but I wouldn't have it any other way! I hated having to deal with a landlord, and not being able to do what i want. Now we have land, we can paint and remodel, relandscape, have the animals we want to have. It's just the best! I love home ownership!! it's OK to be scared, as long as you are excited too!!
