Bums

Today after I got off from work I stopped off at a gas station to fill up my truck. I noticed a grungy looking man at the door of the station digging in the trash can. I didn't think much of it, but then he started walking in my direction, mind you I don't have much sympathy for bums and beggers. He comes walking around the other side of the pump and asks me for money, so I check my pockets for some spare change. I had no change to give to him, so he stated digging in the garbage can right next to me saying he sometimes finds money in there. Anyway I don't really know where I'm going with this, but oh well. Do any of you feel sorry for people like this? Why or why not? Personally, I feel if they can walk and talk, they are capable of working some kind of job, or earning their way in society. Now if it is someone that is working and still struggling, ask me for help, I will help you as much as I can. It is just the people that want things handed to them that bug me. Please feel free to reply whatever you think, I'm not here to argue with anyone, maybe someone has a different point of view that I haven't thought about.

It was late last night when I first read this discussion. ANd I have to honestly say that it made my night. I had had the worst day ever and then for some reason your little story brought a smile to my face.

I'm glad I could make you smile 1300 miles away, you're always so pretty when you smile.

I'm not very good at giving money to beggers in Europe. I always used to give something to old men begging in Africa but that was different to fit people here who could get some sort of job. The beggars who make me angry are those in their teens or twenties. I mean, they are professional beggers; know all the chat; got the accessories (dog or cat or baby) and lay it on thick. They get nothing from me. (well they do indirectly because I pay taxes)

I have a home in the USA in a small town so beggars are not a part of my like there. I do however spend a considerable amount of time in one of the biggest citys in the UK. Beggars in the center of town here are abundant and I used to think "Oh what a shame," until I read an article in the local newspaper that said a lot of them were professional beggars from other towns. More than one of them had been witnessed by the newspaper reporter going into a toilet area - changing out of their begging clothes and then going to their cars to go home with their days takings. Yes cars! One got into a BMW another one went home in a Mercedes and these are just a couple of the examples quoted. Now when I look at them sitting in the town center I wonder to myself - what will you be riding home in at the end of the day. I'll be on a bus while you are probably riding in your luxury car. Since I read that article I give them nothing.

When I think that the person is healthy and strong enough to work, I don't give them anything. I only give foods and drinks to those who are really old, too old to work and to those little kids. Some beggars have mental problems. But other than that, the others are just bums.

you are right, we should not give money to the beggers who are capable of doing work and earn, in past I used to give to most of the street beggars but nowadays I find this has became a business and their are so many peoples looking to beg around even though they can work and earn some, I generally give money or any help to handicap beggers or very old ones only
