are you AFRAID of DARK PLACES???

Sometimes, I am afraid of those places. It's so creepy at times to stay in those areas especially if you're alone.
But is there a basis for us to be afraid?
What could be the possible reasons for people to be afraid of dark places??

I am not personally afraid of dark places. Actually, sometimes I find them comforting. However, I do have friends who afraid of the dark.
I think that one of the most plausible reasons for this fear is that ~ if you can't see anything, you don't know what's there. Blind people aren't afraid of the dark, because they've lived in the dark their entire lives. They've learned to compensate for that which they cannot see.
Sighted people, on the other hand, have been dependant on what their eyes can physically see for the bulk of their lives. We don't generally rely on scent or hearing. So, when that sense of sight is taken away by the dark, we feel frightened.
