Why a dog can come back home no matter how far it from home?

I think dogs can do this because I believe all animals have senses that we humans don't understand because we don't have them, animals have many senses that we don't understand and I don't think people want to know about them because it would probably make animals smarter than us and wouldn't that be a turn up for the books...
