Our society is putting some friendship limitation between the girl and boy. Is it necessary?

I think society putting a limit on friendship only sets up the children to feel like something is wrong with themselves and with the "other." It creates a stigma in turn that is unecessary, and it sets children up later in life for disappointment. It's like the children are in gender war camps because society, its rules, and the parents put them there. The only reason for this separation is the stigma adults put onto children. The only reason I can think of is that little boys and girls are physically different, and the rest of the world sees this as dirty.
