A sixteen year old girl got kicked off of the plane for coughing! She was on her way home from New York with her classmates and teachers. Apparently she caught a cold while she was there and feell asleep after she boarded the plane. She woke up in a coughing fit and could not catch her breath. She was given water and a doctor examined her and she was deemd heathly enough to make the ten hour trip home. But the pilot kicked her off anyways. Her teacher and her were forced to find a hotel room and buy clothes and tolietries and returned home the next day. What is your take on this? That is just plain ridiculous! Why would you kick somone off because of coughing???? It wasn't endangering anyone!!

that was not right, she was on a class trip. Her parents should get the airline to give them a face to face to hear what where they thinking

I think that if she couldn't catch her breath it could have been a sign of a serious illness so I can understand why the pilot was cautious.
I think that because American's sue people for anything these days they have to be so careful as if she had a fit on the plane from coughing the airline would have been sued for letting an unfit person fly.

Good question, I am sure the lawyers will sort this one out. Generally speaking I suspect that there are policies that cover reasons why you can remove someone from a plane, if the pilot followed them.

I would be surprised if the girl's family didn't attempt some sort of lawsuit. It seems odd that someone could be kept off of a flight for coughing. If they're going to do that.. then why not kick off a mother because her baby was crying too loud? Or how bout an elderly gentleman who snored too loud? If it was the noise, they should have just dealt with it. If it was out of concern for her health, then the pilot should have let the guy who had a clue, aka the doctor, make that call.
I certainly would have had a few choice words for the pilot and the airline had that been me or one of my companions during a flight. I'd probably have taken issue with it if I was another passenger as well, considering they probably landed first to get her off, then resumed their initial flightplan.
Sum it up: It's garbage. Never should have happened. No sense to it at all.
