"My Sweet Lord"

I just read a news article about an artist who did a statue of Jesus in pure milk chocolate and named it my sweet Lord. Some Catholics are claiming to be outraged, though for the life of me, I do not understand why. Yes, he is my Lord and I love and respect him, but who is to say that this is not the very same reason this artist has done what he has. Just because they don't see the artistry in it, that does not give them the right to judge this man. No one owns Jesus, he belongs to each of us, and we don't always represent him in the right way either. So we have no right to criticize what anyone else does.

I guess I can understand why some people would think this is not appropriate. On the other hand, I am all for any thing, song, action, that brings glory to God and draws people's attention to Him. That statue might be seen by someone who has never stepped foot in a church. It might just plant a seed of curiousity in his head and grow there until he opens his bible. You never know what can happen. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

This is exactly what I am trying to say. We don't know what prompted this man to do this. But, even if his intentions were not honorable, the word of God promises that what the devil means for evil, God will turn for good so that he may be glorified.

I read the article on MSN news.com. The problem is that they had to show it from the back because he is not wearing a loin cloth.

I think that is really nice myself to make a statue and name it my sweet Lord. I agree with you no one has the right to critize another in the way they worrship or what they do for God.

the reason the Catholic church feels ownership of JESUS is that the catholic Church is the bride of JESUS and out of our deep love of HIM we wish others would treat HIM with respect. Ok so no that i've explained that let me say that i was once given a chocolate cross that i could not eat because the cross is a symbol of pain and suffering. I could gladly eat with much respect a chocolate JESUS because HE commanded us to eat HIM and because HE is my sweet LORD!!

Meaning absolutely no disrespect, let me ask a question of you. I am not Catholic, but as a christian I have been taught that all believers are the bride of Christ, not just the Catholic church. Is that a specific teaching of the Catholic faith or am I misinterpreting what you stated? Again, I am not trying to argue or offend you, I am just curious.

No offense, but a lot of the Catholic laws puzzle me.
