I'm giving out some models here, they should be in or near your price range. 1. Sony Cybershot DSC - W30 2. Sony Cybershot DSC - W35 3. Sony Cybershot DSC - W55 The models are listed in ascending order of price. W30 and W35/W55 have a one important difference of megapixels. W30 is 6 effective megapixels. W35/W55 is 7 effective megapixels. all the three cameras have a 3x optical zoom. I will not mention digital zoom as it is worthless. Digital Zoom is the same as taking pictures and then zooming them on your computer using any imaging software. In between W35 and W55, go for W55 only if you wish a bigger LCD on the camera...W35 has a 2in screen while the screen on W55 is around 2.5in. Guess this helps.

I've not mentioned the exact prices because, I do not know from which country are you...but considering you are from US, I can tell that these three models have prices near $300.

Hi! recently i am checking digital cameras for my sister coz i am planning to buy her one. With your budget of US$300 I will recommend you Sony cybershot W-series. I had tried using sony, I own one DSC-S600 and i am satisfied with its features and quality of pictures. It is easy to use. You may try to visit http://www.sonystyle.com Go to camera & camcorders digital cameras . or try this one, if you were from india. http://www.sony.com.in In that site you may compare prices and camera specs, so you may have an idea which one is better. As what i had observe online prices is lower than retail price in store, so better know how much is the actual price in store. For me, the first one i am looking is the lens..i prefer CarlZeiss For Canon brands..i am not yet familiar, but you may also try to see their website http://www.canon.com you also find there their prices.

I think you do have a few choices - you can choose one with a higher MP, great zoom, or just simple compact. You can also consider any camera for prosumers these days..... around $300 only. You can tweak it, or just set it to Auto mode for spur of the moment shootings.

i would recommend you a Sony Cybershot Camera. I personally own one and I tell u it is a great camera with superb picture quality. For this amount u will be able to get a 6 Megapixel or 7 Megapixel camera. I have a 4.1 MP cam and the prints are great I use sony DSC-S60 i think that model is not available now better u take the new 6 MP or 7 MP model..

I prefer Panasonic DMC-TZ1 (or the new one DMC-TZ3), this camera is quick responce(as you expect with moment photograpy), has lens with zoom 10x, image stabilizer, and the important is the smallest camera with ultra zoom.

Dude, go for canon powershot.. thats the best out of market.. Model is something like 660 or something i am not sure, it has 7x Zoom and 6.0 Megapixel lens, picture quality is just awesome... I am also planning to buy one, I hope it will cost you around $250, with an additional storage capacity memory chip of 256 MB. I would suggest you that one..
