What is your reason for requesting friends?I have noticed some people request to be a friend just to up their friend list and then you dont even hear from them anymore. If I request to be a friend, obviously I have found some type of interest in his or her discussion and I feel this person is kool!!!(Same goes for myspace.com) anybody else feeling me?

For me to select a friend or even accept an invitation, the other person should have interests, background or even values that match mine...

I dont' request friends often, but when I do it is usually because I found the person to have interesting discussions or answers. Something I can relate to or enjoyed reading. It doesn't mean that I will be responding all their discussions, but it certainly means that I will look for their discussions when I"m here and that I will read them whenever I can.

Same here.I cant answer each and every person on my list because its impossible.I do answer all types of discussions from new users, top discussions,no responses anything that i find an interest in.

I totally agree with you. I do think some people want a large friends list. I have rarely put a friends request in, most of my friends have put request in for me. I have approved all of them. I spend most of the time here posting in "discussions my friends started", that way I will get a variety of topics from everyone on my list. I do have a few people that I try to keep up with.

I know what you mean, disvachic. I can't understand either why some members bothered to be on my list of friends when they did nothing but to keep posting their own threads and forget about mine. Last month, I had no choice but to delete about 12 friends who are active. For those inactive one, I normally leave them as my list hoping they might come back any time soon. I also rarely requested myself to be on someone's list. I like to get a feel on one member before making my decision. :)

Im glad you feel me!!I think it boos their ego,i really dont know what the reason is.Some just want you to answer all theirs which i have no problem if its interesting, but to have me on your list i have no idea.I haven't deleted anyone yet.I think the members that haven't logged on since we have started i will.

That's exactly my sentiments. I don't feel any better deleting friends. I just thought the least that they do is to reciprocate the same support I'm giving them. :)

i request for friends when I really knew them or he/she is a long lost contact/friend/classmate... but i accept friend requests just to satisfy their enjoyment.. it doesnt harm me either.. problem is we end up dont communicate with each other at all which i feel the same as you.. till a certain point i make the 1st move of talking to them.. then i realise some similarities or differences between each other...

Well I only request friends when I want them in my circle. I relate to their discussions and I know they are loyal and they will support my discussions too. However, I am always trying to up my friends so I can have more of them to respond to my discussions. I also go to my friends list when I can not find any good discussions and start looking at what they have written that I may have missed. My goal is to have 1000 active friends, but so far that is a little hard to control. By the time I get 500 friends I start checking their activity and end up deleting a lot. I think it is very important to run your friend list up for future discussions, but you can't always respond to all of them when they get high. I have had people request me just because of my avatar, which I think is lame. I accept all friends request, because you just never know who might be a good friend and who might not be.

I request a person to my friends list after doing a little investigation. I like to observe for awhile, get a feel for what a persons about. Simply see what they are working with in the brains department. I make sure I read profile and all he or shes Q&A posts. I like a person who knows how to hold a good conversation. I enjoy a good healthy exchange:-) Oh, & if a person is on my freinds list, I do my best to keep intouch, other wise whats the point. (Great Question)

I usually select friends because I've read something that I like in their discussions and thought that we had something in common also, Disvachic. But afterwards I don't hear from them anymore either.Even if some one has equested me to be their friend. So I ask the same question. "What's going on?"

I add up friends not just so I would have lots of friends here. Well, it's nice to have lots of friends here.. but I add them up if they have the same interest like me. If we share the same passion or likes, dislikes, favorites.. etc..Ü

the more friends you have the more you can respond to their discussion, and ath the same time they can respond to your discussion, hence gaining more from both sides. if let's say you have 2 friends, this means this 2 persons only can see 'your' discussion in their 'discussions my friends started' section. you get only so much for their response. but if you have let's say 500 friend, imagine 500 person have the ability to respond to their 'discussions my friends started' and this includes your discussion... this is just my opinion. cheers

My selection of friends here is mainly to get good friend from various countries. Know their culture, ideas etc. I do not make friend just to upgrade the list. There are many who says Yes to each request. I am not so. I also see all the topics started by my new friends to have general idea about new friend. Respond some of them. See comments on my response next day.

I have not asked to be put on someones friends list many times. When i have done it it is because I found the person interesting. I either liked the questions or answers the person gave, or I find their interests really interesting.

Well, I think if somebody is requesting for friendship, how can I deny. I personally feel it as my moral duty to behave like friend as we are gathered to encourage the others and on the other hand having some discussions & replies. The money is a bonus ;) Sorry if my opinion contradicts..But I think one chance should be given to others before denying.

I usually request for friends when I find a person interesting enough that I'd be interested in finding their future discussions easier (if they are my friends their topics are listed in the discussions my friends started page). I do that even if I have nothing in particular to tell to that person so I usually don't send a private message.
