principle you live by?

expect the worst but don't expect.. a friend of mine gave that advice to me a few years back and since then, i've been living my life with this principle. it might sound conflicting to others, but basically i understood it perfectly and i've been able to live better ever since. expecting the worst made me appreciate everything that comes my way and not expecting would keep the balance of my pessimistic nature.

extend life, live for others, not for oneself
