I know a lot of people scorn this genre, but since I was never a big fan of Harlequins or Historical romance novels, it really appealed to me when I needed a fast, fun read! :) With summer rapidly approaching, who else loves laying in the sun with a good chick-lit novel? Any favorite authors? I love Louise Bagshaw and and Jennifer Weiner! Any book recommendations for the lazy, hazy days of summer? I just read 'The Girlfriend Curse' by Valerie Frankel and thought it was an adorable book!

Being the Boyfriend of a ferocious reader, I read (or infact am forced to read) a veriety of books ranging from non-fictions to ofcourse chic lits. I usually pretends to hate reading them, but sometimes, secretly I do enjoy reading this type of books, especially if written by U.K based writes since their swearings and sarcastic remarks are bone-breakingly funny. I don't know if you've read it, but if you haven't I strongly suggest Marian Keyes's The other Side of the Story. It's about three women who's life somehow are interconnected. One is failing miserably, trying to come up with a second blockbuster novel, one just seperated from his boyfriend (who is now dating the failing novelist), The other one is trying to climb the corporate ladder as a publisher's agen while having affair with her married boss. Very juicy, verry funny, very touching too!!! Or you can try The Ex Factor by Andrea Semple. It's about a "relationship guru" who tries to mend her life and get back on her feet after a painful breakup with her boyfriend. Funny. One word only to escribe this one. Funny. Although I would not say this aloud, Yes, I am a fan of chic-lits, sometimes :)

I've never read any of the authors you've mentioned, but am realky tempted to give it a try. They sound fun and enjoyable. I have read Bridget Jones Diary though - does that count as chick-lit? I'm pretty sure it was the original chick-lit novel.

That's definitely chick lit, don't think it was the original as many more were published prior to it's publication, but it definitely brought the genre to the forefront instead of it just being a subgenre of romance or dramatic novels.

Well a friend of mine lent me oneof Linda Lael Millers vampire romance novels. If that counts. Also one of Johanna Lindsays books. From there I'll fess up to having bought more of their books when I find them on the library's sale table. I'm far to easily embarrased to even walk through the romance section of a book store. Aside from those I have one I bought not knowing it was a romance novel. I forget the title off hand but it featured a planet full of people with psychic abilities and a guy with none and whom around none worked. I got to the first "romantic encounter" and bothered to examine the spine and where I could have sworn I saw a "science fiction" sticker before was a "romance" sticker as palin as day in red letters and little hearts. It was still a good read mind you.
