Quick daily routines to get my house organised?

Ok, I need some tips from the experienced housekeepers here. I'm a terrible slob, but I really want to learn to be good at housework. My big trouble is that I work very hard and always have work to do at home as well as in the office. I have in the past done ok with some of the Flylady tips, especially breaking chores down into 5, 10 or 15 minute chunks and doing them with a timer in my pocket so I don't get bogged down. However, knowing where to start is an issue for me. So, if you were tackling a busy, creative (we have books, crafts, projects and stuff like camping gear everywhere and not enough storage space) and currently frankly dirty and disorganised house, and you hadnt got big blocks of time, how would you start to approach it. Ideally I'm looking to develop a before work and after work routine to get on top of the everyday tasks that will allow me to start working on teh more unusual bits on days off, but I need help to work out where to start with it all.

What you need to do is start in the kitchen where it is most important to be clean. Start washing your dishes after each meal and once they are washed clean a bit of the surfaces, or the floor, or the table etc. You also have time to sort washing etc while the dinner is cooking. I tidy every night before I go to bed, just making sure the floors are clear and that washing up is all in the kitchen etc. I set aside one time in the week to hoover and another time to clean the bathroom. That way you don't have to do all the jobs in one long go, but you still keep on top of all the work.

I used to be quite organized but my heath has really hurt my house keeping these days. I used to keep a list for each day. I did waht was on the list before I did anything else. Now that I have been so sick, there are some days, I dont do any housework

I know exactly how you feel. I have 4 kids, and it seems like there is always a mess going on. Today started Spring Break for my kids, which means "Spring Cleaning" in my household....UGGGGGGGG. I have walls to wash down, carpets to scrub, and closets to organize. And we wont even think about the outside yet, flowers to plant, yard to weed and mow, etc. I have found that being consistant will help out some, but it depends on the other household members being willing to cooperate with how you want things done. I do dishes probably 3 or 4 times a day to keep the sink empty and clean, and do about 4 load of laundry a day. It seems if I am working on a "decluttering project" or something in one room, the kids are off in another room messing up, and then I will clean up that mess, and have a again another one to clean, it's like the laundry..neverending!! I like to watch the tv shows on TLC and HGTV to learn organizing and even decorating tips can help you clean and organzize better. I just suggest writing down what it is that bothers you about your cleaning habits, then make a schedule that works for you and post it on the fridge, be consistant, and in about a week or so it will be a thing of the past. The best thing to get something done is...."just get to it and do it!!"

I agree with using Flylady. Maybe you can't follow every day, but take some time to read about it and use it as a guide. Start off small and when you get into the habit of doing that, add more stuff in. Kitchens & bathrooms are easist to start with, because it's the most noticable. Wash dishes as you use them, put them away ASAP, keep counters & table clear & ready to use. Sweep floors when you're done with what you're doing in the room. Bathrooms - wipe things down really quickly each day, and clean up as you go along. Later, expand to the other areas of the house. Just little bits at a time. When you have a chance, deep clean one room at a time, then keep up with the daily stuff. I'm in the early stages, but it's working for me so far! Just got to get around to doing some more deep cleaning!
